I purchased a used Lakewood Bell for 400-455 applications and it came with a blocksaver plate. The problem I am having is that it seems like the crank hole on the blocksaver is to small and it will not go on over the crank. Am I doing something wrong here, or does the block saver need to have the crank hole enlarged? If so, whats the best option for having it cut since it's made out of 1/8th inch plate steel. o No:
Hi Mike,i had the same problem when i was installing my lakewood, the crank would not fit the hole of the block plate so i had to cut it bigger with a torch. Thanks
Thanks for the info George, I guess I need to take it to someone and have them enlarge the hole since I don't have an acetelyne torch handy. ou: I wonder how Lakewood managed to screw something that simple up. :spank:
Plasma Mike: Find someone with a plasma-cutter, it will give a cleaner cut with less heat to distort the plate. Jim PS I have one I could bring to Kearney with me, but, I bet you don't want to wait that long. ou: (you are still planning to come??)
Actually what I ended up doing yesterday evening was going to the hardware store and buying some steel cutting blades for my jig saw. Suprisingly it worked great and only took about 20 mins of cutting. Slow process but this method assured me of not warping the thing. It also came out pretty clean looking. Jim, I still plan on making Kearney. Obviously I will not be driving my Buick out there, but you guys can all make fun of me in my turbo rollerskate (WRX).
I may think about bringing my turbo roller skate ('89 turbo GL wagon) :3gears: , Nah! I get made fun of enough at these things ou: Jim PS Glad you got it fixed
