This post is just to say thanks to Cliff Ruggles for the q-jet he recently built for me. Cliff is a Pontiac guy but he pipes in on this board quite often. After getting the secondary air valve adjusted properly, my car starts, idles, and drives like it never has before. Cliff is a great guy to deal with and a wealth of knowledge on these carbs. If anyone out there is considering having a q-jet rebuilt, Cliff should be your first choice. Thanks again Cliff :TU:

Thanks! We've have more Buick carburetors in here than ever before, and we certainly appreciate the business from folks on this webiste. We've even had a couple of folks drive their Buicks all the way to our shop to have them installed. Good to see folks enjoying these vehicles as much as they are. :beers2: .....Cliff

Yeah! Cliff you are the man. My Buick runs now much better than before. You are a Promaster in you professional. Thanks a lot of your great work, the waittime was woth it. But now my Buick runs a little bit to lean, in what direction I need to turn the screw and how much?

    Thanks for the help

With the early Buick carburetors, we always try to free-up the APT screw and put an external screw in the baseplate.

On our test engine, we set the A/F ratio for about 50rpm's increase tipping in the choke flap, or just on the edge of being lean.

To increase A/F, turn the screw clockwise 1/8 turn or so. The metering rods are tapered, so small movements of the screw will have an impact on fuel delivery. Test drive and continue to richen it up until the engine runs smooth, best part throttle performance, and best fuel economy.

Before making any adjustments, make sure that the timing is set correctly, and that the mechanical and vacuum advance is working like it's supposed to.

If the timing is retarded, or vacuum/mechanical advance moving slowly or not at all, richer carb settings will be required.....Cliff

I just took delivery of one of Cliff's Q-Jet rebuilds, great looking work. Just waiting to have a vacuum port drilled on the base plate before I can bolt it up.

I'll give the full report when I get it back.

My carb is with Cliff now. I think it should be ready around Christmas, and I'm really excited to get it back. It's gonna be a Christmas present that is hard to top!
