Just a heads up. I went to pick up my dash pad and console from Just Dashes today. I also brought my instrument cluster bezel with me to start that process. He took one look and said I am no longer doing that type of work. It is the son who has taken the business over. I have another source and will go that route. I will let everyone know how it turns out. He does the vacuum plating as well as the paint work. I got a great feeling talking to him. As an aside. The dash pad from Just Dashes looks great. The console not so much. The thermo plastic wrap looks sloppy. They wrapped a new re pop lid I gave them for a color match as well. That wasn't part of the original plan. We are working things out still. To my eye the added thickness of the wrap changes the lines on the console. I do realize I am picky, but it makes the radiuses look fat for lack of a better description. And the wrap looks fine on something soft like a dash pad, but it makes the console look like it is also soft material, like a dash pad. Hope this helps someone. I will update when I get my other stuff back. I am sending lots of stuff. Radio knobs and escutcheons, arm rest backing plates, cigarette lighter escutcheon, and a complete instrument cluster bezel. Best to all. Marc.
The dash pad is pretty nice. That process is perfect for the soft/flexible parts. And for the most part, I would think it isn't that labor intensive. I get why he wants to get away from the other stuff. I just think they should have been up front when I gave them the console. The thermal wrap was not what I was expecting. My pad looks the same as the one they did for my friends 65 GTO. He did his maybe 5 years ago. But a lot more $. I think he said his was $700. This was $1,100. I will take a few pictures this weekend before I pack it away. If anyone wants a picture, PM me a e mail or cell # and I will send them one.
Good to hear the pad quality has kept up. The one they did for me 20 years ago was/is super. It is on my LeSabre, matched the color perfectly, and was not cheap back then either.
Starc, my son and I spent a long time talking with the owner of this wagon at MCACN. His story of restoring a 454 SS wagon from the malaise years was fascinating. All the plastic pieces in the rear had to be redone; he and his wife shipped them to Just Dashes then flew out there to discuss it with them because they didn’t know if they could fix them. Turns out they could, and did. He said it wasn’t cheap. The car is so cool and the resto was a true accomplishment. Patrick
Just Dashes is now re doing the console they did for me. I brought another unrestored console with me yesterday for them to see how different it looks from what they did to the one I gave them. They agreed, then went and found what I think is a really close match. Wish this had been used the first time, but I do think it is going to be really nice. This is a picture of the swatch on my unrestored console.
