66 s/p trans I would not rest untill the original switch pitch was back in the car. That was a one year option in 66. the case and the converter and the front pump are unique. The switch pitch adds a lot of punch to the accelleration. The engine is as tough as nails and the car is solid. The GS option gives it quicker steering, heavy duty springs and shocks, lower restriction exausts, different advance curve in the dist, usually a posi with a 3;42 gear. Some a/c cars had a higher gear. Be sure to check the heater /upper and lower rad. hoses and the thermostat. These have ruined a lot of engines. congrats on the find. :Brow:

just picked one up too I just towed home a 66 GS cat as well .I have been screwing the front sheet metal back on and trying to sort out the brakes electrical when temps permit. I posted looking for a cowl tag decode and got a partial decode. There are still a couple of items that are a mystery to me however. cowl tag reads as follows. 12C 66 46637 BWO 683 BODY TR 493 NN PAINT 3 281 C08 Thanks for the help
Decode Tom, Specialwagon 65 Would be the best person to ask about decoding that tag, He seems to be the "expert" (to me aleast) on the rare Cats. I am sure there are others but Ted comes to mind when I need Cat info. Plus th fact that he owns a Beautiful one (it is in progress) He really loves them and really knows his stuff about them. If he does not know off the top of his head then he knows where to look or he can tell you where to look. GOOD LUCK With bringing her back! I am jealous Don
I got this link from Brian in Buick Club Denmark. See if you can use it. http://www.yearone.com/updatedsinglepages/Id_info/decoding_body_tags.asp thanks for all the good stuff you post... Morten
Pictures of my baby It's winter and snow here i DK right now so better pics must wait a couple of months... :3gears:
as you can see i have the kleenex tissue holder under the dash. funny option. which emblem is the right for the trunklid. the wildcat text in the middle and gs to the right or just wildcat?
Morten thanks for the link. I had alredy gotten the paint and trim colors decoded now I am hoping that some one can decode the accessory codes. I will take a stab at the trunk emblems , but I am far from an expert on these cars. From what I have read the earlier built cars came with block style letters on the trunk and rear quarters. The later cars were delivered with the script letters on the trunk and rear quarters. My car was built 3rd week of december 1966 and came with the script letters . The GS letters are to the left of the trunk script and below the quarter panel scripts. Run a search on the forum for wildcat GS and you will see a bunch of pictures some have the script and some have the block letters. Check out Bill Burton's 4 speed car his user name is Topcat his car is beautiful .
more number queations Well on to the next question on numbers verification. I knew the engine was a numbers match for the car when i bought it. I am now checking the trans for the vehicle serial number to verify that it is correct. I can't find any numbers other than the tag. The tag is a 66 BT tag so at least the year is correct. Where can I find the seral number on the trans case?I have been looking on the drivers side just above the pan and I can not find any numbers at all. Any ideas? what about the rear end where should the numbers be for that ? Thanks for the help.
