Hi Gang! Stepson lost his ride. Hoping someone out there might have a suggestion. It's a 1983 Olds Cutlass with Buick Motor; V6, 3.8 that won't stay running. Has new timing gears, new chain - and yes, they are set right.
It starts, then runs "rough" in park, but will run. As you are attempting to switch it into drive, it bogs down, possible backfire, and completely dies out. Just can't put a finger on what might be causing this thing to bog down like that. Note: It did the exact same thing before the timing gear and chain were replaced/repaired.
Any ideas ? ? ? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I think I would be checking two things..... the fuel pump for pressure and volume, and also the "coil in cap" ignition coil. Are you running the stock dual-jet carb? Make sure the choke isnt stuck closed.

If it does turn out to be the carb, yank that little 2 bbl off and find the factory aluminum 4 bbl intake and carb that came on the 80-84 4.1L V6 motors...They are a direct bolt-on to the 3.8L and will wake that motor up a little...

One other thing on the 4 bbl intake...Check on over at www.turbobuick.com for one of them(Ask around in some of the forums and look in the parts for sale or parts wanted forums)...A lot of guys over there are either building the stock 4.1L motors into turbo motors or are buying them for the cranks in them(same as the turbo 3.8L crank) and then getting rid of the rest of the motor...You should be able to pick up at least the intake for under $50...
