Today I looked at a Buick 455,the guy said it knocks and he said I could have it for $250.00.It has the casting #1241735.Is it worth getting and sticking money into want some good horse power to put in a 1986 olds cutlass.
There are some running 455's out there at reasonable prices. I'd look for one of them before buying a knock unknown. I know of at least 2 that you could hear run and drive and come with 400 THM's to boot for $500 bucks apiece, but you'd have to pick them up in TN. The yard where they are at won't ship to the best of my knowledge.
It depends on where you are and how avaiable they are. Trying to find a good running one in Ontario for under $500.00 is next to impossible.
I'm not sure what the motor's worth, but I am impressed the guy volunteered the information. When we were younger, we often had to turn down the idle when people had it high to conceal a knock. It's something you'd definitely have to put money into, and you don't know how bad it is. With a knock, I'd think less than $250, because you might end up with nothing more than some parts to put on a good block.
