Nice car. but ported heads and a 3.42 gear with those manifolds? Bet it runs like crap. Didn't know you could get a 3.42 with a 4 speed. Know you couldn't in 68. Don't think it'd be any good in FAST. Don't think any small block Olds would be any good in FAST. Big Block 70 W30 is another story, though, if done right.
Thanks for the reply Dave, I'm not trying to start any trouble by any means , I'm just trying to learn so in case one of these years I get back into cars, I'd like to run PS or FAST and I thought once you port the heads it puts you into the FAST class Overall, gotta admit it does look pretty nice, the rallye red 70 W-31 from New Jersey showed up again on ebay just a week or so ago too
No problem there, porting the heads will knock you out of Pure Stock or Factory Stock (assuming you have scruples ( :Brow: ), but doesn't make it a good candidate for FAST, just the only place you can run it (legally). I think it's a great car and real happy to see them start to pull the big bucks. 5 years ago, only a handful of people even knew what one was. Pure Stock, Muscle Car Review, Casey, and a few magazines and TV coverage kinda woke things up. Watch out for a slew of clones. uzzled:
You could get 3.42 gears in 1970... Put in a set of 4.30's... :Brow: Have fun.. :bglasses: JH :3gears:
yep. I think Casey looked up the data when we were talking about HD cooling or not. A guy local to me has a 70 Cutlass S W-31 Rallye Red 4sp, buckets, no console that he bought brand new. it's a 3.42 geared car. I've got 4.33s in mine. Also have a 4.66 ring and pinon if I feel the need for more gear :Brow:
Don't think 3.42 gears would be very good with a low torque 4 speed small block out of the hole on bias ply tires. I'm thinking 2.3 to 2.4 60 footers. Big time bog,and if you spin, good bye...............
15.2@95 was the best i could pull with 342's in the 69 when i first put it back together...all wheel hop in 1st.. if it was a 69 and not a 70 it would be 10 grand cheaper..
