The fellow who sold me my 1965 Skylark convertible five years ago probably told me if he updated the distributor, but I don’t remember. Please look at the photos of the inside of the distributor and tell me what you think. Kurt
I agree. From what I can see it looks 100% stock. Yor last picture... I "think" I now see your inside fan belt must be just hanging out of the way. It's definitely inside out. Sorry, too funny!
If it has been updated, it doesn't appear to be anything I can discern. If you took a better picture of the weights and springs, it might have a recurve kit but that's about all I can imagine from looking at it. It certainly hasn't had a conversion to breakerless.
Ya, don't see anything, although often "modified" for a distributor means the advance curve has been altered from it's factory setting. You figure that out with a timing light, timing tape or a degreed balancer, and a tach.. And John.. fan belts come with those notches on both sides.. different brands.. some use them on the "V" side, some on the back side.. suppose to allow the belt to resist cracking, and last longer. That's a notch on the V side belt, so it is properly oriented.. JW
Thanks for the replies, it just looks really hard to get to and I couldn’t see the breaker part of the points. Stock is fine, I just want to buy the right parts if I need to do a tuneup. I compared it to a 401 distributor and it is obvious Buick put them together differently.
