is this a 9&3/8" rear?

    Nope...the 9 3/8 will have 12 bolts holding the cover on. The 70 and earlier 9 3/8 rears had 10 bolts, but the cover was more square. This appears to be either an 8.5 or 8 7/8

    i didnt think it was but i thought that all the big cars got the 9&3/8".

    In 1976, the 350 was standard in the Electra, and that would've given it the smaller rear end.

    GM converted to 8 7/8" for the HD big car applications in something like 74.

    8 1/2" housings (or other light duty) for the B body cars (which will also bolt into the C or E body cars) were available for the entire run if you got a small block.

    the seller says that this is a C-clip axle. didn't all the 8 7/8" and 9 3/8" rears have bolt in retainers out at the axle housings?
