Is JB Weld any good for cracked blocks?

    Hairline crack at gasket face between cylinders 3 and 5. Is JB weld any good for this... :Do No:

    save a complete teardown/rebuild and weld/sleeving? :Brow:

    Motor is stock 72 Riv 455 GS (stage 1).

    JB Weld won't help you on this one....sorry to say. I would just replace the block.

    A little club soda will take that out! Seems to work for everything else too.

    If it's a numbers matching type of deal and you want to save the block, you might be able to have the crack pinned. Just depends on how bad the crack is. A good welding shop should be able to repair it also.

    sleeve both cyls and have the deck welded. that should do the trick. Doc

    Once had a block "numbers matching" pined.

    It worked successfully. The block must be heated then slowly cooled...a specialty shop would be advisable.
