    i need to know something:
is gas blended with 10% ethanol safe for use in my 75 le sabre? :Do No:
thought about using 1/2 of this gas,and regular 87 octane what do you all think

I doubt that 10% ethanol blended gas will have any adverse effect on your engine, but you will see lower mpg with ethanol blends.

I recommend staying away from alcohol additives, due to their hygroscopic properties. That means that they attract water, creating a problem in low temps and high humidities, especially when the tank is less than 3/4 full. I suggest an octane booster, such as the NOS racing formula. Alcohol additives add relatively little power as well. Ray

Hey Ray I don't think he is talking about adding it himself, I think he's refering to the ethanol blends at the pumps these days. I've heard that ethanol will eat away at the old rubber pieces in the fuel system. It won't effect any metal parts however. Up here in Canada they are legeslating in the ethenol into all gasoline. MPG falls, it isn't much cheaper currently and due to the extra processing that is required (plus the chemicals to protect the corn while it grows) the jury is still out on if it actually is any better, but it does make for good press.

i was referring to that stuff you get at the pump. so, i'll find a good octane booster

I have been running 93 octane with 10% ethanol in my car since I was 16....

Never seem to have any problems here. I even used the midgrade for a couple years to help save money when I was in college. Midgrade was 91 octane.

There is a ton of info to be found with a google search, pertaining to ethanol blended fuels, if you really want to learn about them. There are pros and cons to using them. The pros are mainly concerning the fact that a renewable domestic resource (corn) is used to produce the ethanol that is added to the gas. That's a plus for the ag industry. However, federal/state subsidies are needed in order for the blended fuel to be priced competetively at the pump. Ethanol is expensive to produce.

In ND it is typically the same price as 87 octane, maybe 1-2 cents higher, but is rated at 89 octane. I don't use it in my 68, but will fill the truck or van with ethanol blends from time to time, but not regularly.

Just to ad to the talks here.......

I am a mail carrier by day and I drive approx. 200 miles everyday 6 days a week on the job. I run this fuel myself everyday, and every tank. I have seen NO changes at all in mileage or parts, hoses, whatever breaking or wearing out sooner. If it does have bad affects I haven't seen any. And I personally live and work in a farming community and we have 2 of these plants pretty close to us(well within 90 miles in different directions). If there is anything I can do to support the farmers that help feed my kids, I am all over it. Just my opinion............

PS- David, If you ever want to drive a steam engine like the one in your avatar, let me know and come on down. We have about 20 of them in my small town here that are restored and funtion perfectly. I "drove" my first one when I was about 12. Your pix looks like a Avery with the big rear wheels. Maybe a Nichols and Sheppard though. Really kool :TU:

Dave... nah, that's my new strip car!

Here's the text that goes with the pic:
My hometown has many similar tractors and plenty of old threshing machines that they fire up every Sept for a weekend steam-threshing convention, if you can call it that. Never been behind the wheel of one of these, can't say that I would want to be, judging by the smoke in the picture!

Can't really say I'm much into this stuff. I've only gone home for a couple of these events. Pretty tame there... :boring: :boring: Good food though! :TU:
