No SS but on the highway 795 at night I've gained a respect from the "tunner-Guys") at EPI Tuning. They see my 84 Century staying with them around turns and straight, the daul exhaust and sway bars are not for looks!!! :3gears: AL.

    340 V8 Lark

Randy, cool ride, anyone who ever drove a 340 Buick V8 would not have any question about muscle!!! A of friend mine has a stock 340 in a 66 LeSaber (almost 3 ton car!!) and it will turn the tires like Johnno's 70 GS!!! :3gears: So I can only imagine the power in your rare option Skylark has :3gears: :TU: AL.

Regardless of whether it's a "muscle car" or not, thats one sweet Buick you have there Randy! Very nice. :TU:

As much as I love our 67 Buicks, I can't consider them musclecars though. It seems to me that a muscle car has a big block under the hood from the factory.
Don't tell me a Chevelle SS with a 350 is a muscle car. Can it be fast? Heck yeah. But not a "muscle car". I'm with the others who have mentioned "pony cars". It seems to me that a "muscle car" styled car, with a small block engine, would be called a pony car.
    :Do No:

But I have a hard time calling a 67 Skylark a "pony car" too. It's too big to be a pony car in my opinion.
I see that I'm not getting anywhere with this argument with myself. :Dou: :pp

    Fast With Class!
Thats what a 67 Buick is, regardless of the powerplant.

We have an idiot like that at work too!!!

So, this new guy started about a year ago, seemed fine at first. Now we come to realize he is a loser. One day while butting in to a conversation( which he likes to do) I and another guy were talking about cars he asked what I had. Just being calm I said a skylark. He says SKYLARK and laughs.Thats it he's done! He said he has a gto or something in the garage thats been apart for years. I said lets race he didnt say anything(for a change!).He wouldn't know how to put it together. I said Mine runs. later, he saw a picture of it and sort of changed his mind. Anyways, I dont even speak to him if I dont have too! Then this past month I changed the engine and was talking to another guy, and scumbag says he'd like to check it out. i said its just a skylark I dont need any help

    nothin but fun

It was fun reading all these opinions. Here's my two cents. Not that anybody cares or asked but I built my car for ME and I call it "MY Hot Rod" or "Frankenstein's Monster" because of the assortment of parts. I really don't care what people think it looks like or if they think its a muscle car or a classic or not. It's only worth something to me. The other night I squatted down in my garage at 2 in the morning and stared at my car. I thought to myself, "damn that's sweet." For me it's about that and winning the occasional street race. If you want to be cool and drive what other people think is cool then you need to ask around before you buy a car.

Muscle Car? What's that? Is any Buick other than the GN and GS a muscle car? There was a thread awhile ago. Same Question was asked about a Riviera. I liked some of the other names more than "muscle car" My favorite was the "Executive Express," If you want a muscle car buy a ford, dodge or chrysler. When you want a Buick, buy a Buick.

What's wrong witn muscle car? Chevelle is called a muscle car, Cutlass is called a muscle car a lot...most Skylarks were the same chassis.

The GS and GSX are certainly muscle cars. Big engines in midsize cars, brute power, hood scoops, ram air, name plates proclaiming engine size, ads that empahsized power and speed.

Sounds like a muscle car to me

A muscle car was originally considered, usually, to be an intermediate with the biggest engine possible from the manufacturer. GM had a few bans on engine sizes in intermediate (midsize) cars. then Pontiac found a loo-hole: make the engine part of an options package. the GTO was a hit. So eventually GM lifted the ban, and the ban became engines up to 400 cid, then in '70, it was replaced by the 455 cid ban.

So, carmakers who were playing catch-up repsonded with their own big engine/smaller car packages, to take a piece of the GTO's pie.

By the time the muscle car era waned (car makers and reviewrs today all spout garbage about the 'return of the muscle car'. yeah, right, those cars are WAY too refined and well mannered. Muscle cars my @ss. Do you think any new car owner today would put up with solid lifters, no heater, no radio, and economy car seats in the front, no seats in the back? No flippin way. Those cars today are Grand Touring cars) muscle cars had bold bright colors, hood scoops, spoilers and wings, wheel flares, big graphics displaying their engine size, raked stances, and other 'macho' cues.

The Skylark, being the model on which the GS was built, is a weal argument for a factory muscle car in any case I can think of

The GS and GSX models were definitely muscle cars. Plenty of guys turn their Skylarks into muscle cars, but like me, they can't claim to have a factory built muscle car

all I'm saying is if your going to own a buick don't get caught up in the "muscle car" terminology
