Anybody:What I haven't seen by anyone in the Buick racing family,is a Reatta race car, what would be the pros and cons with such a buildup? What is the wheelbase on a Buick Reatta, would this be a good platform for making a race car out of it:Do No: ? Could it be,the next Opel...? Maybe a Compettion Eliminator,or Super Gas car,or even wilder still...a Pro-Mod car? What would it take, besides MEGA BUCKS!!! Does a beast like this exist? Jay B.Britt,Jr.

Jay, I was ready to do a 9 sec Reatta drag car when I stumbled on the Jag XJS sitting in the boneyard. For $500 complete with leather seats, nice paint, working power windows and no drivetrain, how could I pass it up?
I'm happy with it despite some flack like at BPG where some guy didn't know I was on the other side of the car doing the air in the slicks who said it was "a waste of a Buick motor".

The deal with the Reatta is that it would need nore than a backhalf job since it is front wheel drive.....gets costly. I contacted Ed Quay who does Super Stockers and he said: 30K plus to get it to a rolling chassis ready for motor/trans. I did the JAGUICK for a third of that.

Or go the route of John Schmidt with his for $$$. (tube chassis)

Sure would look cool though and I do have a donor car.:Brow:

I'm sure a dragReatta would weigh less than my Jag. It started out at 3800 lbs now 3100 but still all-steel........

Reatta has a quite low drag coeficient......and one car that would look cool tubbed.:Brow:

It would be cool, but the wheel-base might be a bit short for high-speed stability.

Anyone remember John Force's Reatta Funny Car? That was a pretty awesome car!

Didn't know Force had one. I know Kenny Bernstein had one.

My bad. I meant Kenny. He had the Planter's Peanut guy, Mr. Peanut, on the quarterpanel. Me and my buddy Don still refer to Kenny as "Peanut" because of that.

Hey everybody, I'm new to this forum and the subject caught my attention immediately. I race a 1988 Buick Reatta at Huntsville Speedway in Alabama. Of all the cars I have raced, the Reatta has to be the smoothest handling car I have ever driven.

I have a 89 Regal "body in white" that I had investigated building a Super Stocker with the conversion and running GT with a 71 low compression engine as it had a good factor if I remember correctly. Had bids from a couple of people to do the cage and front-end. Still have the car and may get to it some day. I forgot what it had to weight but I think it would have been fun. Then pull the weight out and go to the Buick only races and fly.

I'm currently finishing up an 89 Daytona tube chassis and it's all factory bodywork except the hood. Once you cut it down to the skin bodywork it's amazingly light.

    Welcome !!

Sounds pretty sweet - what kind of motor are you using and what times do you run ?

Would love to see some pictures

    Possible.. sure..

Race cars are only limited by money and imagination.
