I know that the VIN and all info on cars from mid 70 to 71 were missing in the past. Does anyone know if these have been found yet?
Thanks Thats the way my luck usually works! At least I have matching engine trans and rear end to go by.
I have only found the Fisher Build sheet under the sound deadner. Gas tank changed before i owned car so long gone. I had talked to John Chamberlain at the GS nationals last year and he introduced me to one of the Buick engineers at the seminar. His last name was Blood and he said a friend of his had boxes of original documents from 70-71 era Buicks. I should probably contact Him to see if he has found out more before this stuff finds its way into the trash, after all nobody is getting any younger.
Please Do!! We sure do not need any info like that to just be put to no use. Please try and contact whoever has this and see if they will offer a service like Wayne Roberts does or get them to donate or sell to the Sloan museum. That info doesn't need to disappear but be used to help Buick folks!!!!!!!
Not to be a wet blanket, but I wouldn't get too excited here. If John Chamberlain has contact with this guy I think it is very unlikely that there is anything as valuable as the missing 71 microfilm in that stash, or it would have been brought to light already. But, you never know...
I have two numbers from John for the engineer who's friend is suppose to have the stuff! I will keep you informed hope it is real deal!
Well I am afraid I can't order the "S" cape yet. I talked with retired engineer Joe Blood in his Florida home and he told me the info he new about was some kind of engine info not VIN specific stuff. He did tell me that the VIN stuff went to someplace within GM they call "Platform"? When he returns to Michigan this spring he said he would look into this more as he still has lots of contacts. He said he will be in touch with John Chamberlain. I let him know that a lot of folks would die for this stuff.. I finally got smart and ordered title history info for my car so hopefully I can trace it to original dealer and find documentation if they are still in business. I am sceptical though as the way the state of Massachusetts is run I will be suprised if I get any usefull stuff for my money!
To Pooods is your 71 Burnished Cinnamon? Is it a Stage-1? I have a matching numbers 71 Stage that is Burnished cinn. was orig a brown Vinyl top code 67-F however top is now black.
copperhead,my 71 Stage1 was also burnished cinamin w/ a brown vinyl originally. Its now strato blue, though with no vinyl top.I know it was bought new in DE at Porter Buick, and the original owner replaced the rear tires at 23,000 with L-60`s on 9-16-71 .I do have the original owners name, but have not tried to contact them.My numbers block is long gone, but the 4 speed is original, the car had its original paint on it,along with the correct wide pin Stage1 emblems
Someone let Sloan know Someone with a good relationship with Sloan should give them this info;maybe they could access the info if it is in GM hands. This info doesn't need to just be setting around collecting dust. The info coud bring in operating money for the Sloan musuem and held document our cars!!!!!!! Doesn't Roberta work at Buick? We should get her to pass this on.
