    hello

I'm in the proces of installing an old radatron tachometer in my 1964 wildcat.

The problem is that i hooked up the tachometer but the needle will only climb a few rpm's when i rev the engine(tacho reading 800 engine about 2500).

I converted my points to a cranecams xri ignition in my dist, could it be that the tachometer is set for points and doesn't get a good pulse or weak pulse from the crane xri ???
Are there any tricks or parts for to have my tachometer working properly???

    Thanks in advance

  2. Since you said it was an "old" tach, did you know if it was working before you installed it? If you do not know its condition, I would try it on another vehicle before racking your brain as to why it doesn't work.

I'm unfarmiliar with your Crane setup but the tach gets the "signal" from a coil connection, not the points. You should have it hooked to the proper side of the coil or a tach connection on an electronic distributor.

I still have to test it on another vehicle, the tach was a new in a box unit never been opened!!!
It does something but not enough, only runs up a few 100 rpm's when i rev my engine

I tested the tachometer today on a car with a normal points ignition and it worked like it was suposed to do.
So i have a weak pulse with my crane xri ignition is there something that i can do to make a better pulse???

  5. Try a different coil in the car and see if you get anything different.

was the car you were testing on a V8 powered car as well? i know that most tachs vary on number of cylinders.

I know i googled alot for it!!!!!

It works realy good with a normal points ignition, that's why i ordered the tach adapter but it doesn't work!!!
I have a crane xr-i ignition and they say that i need the crane 8-2050 adapter but it's listed as a motorcycle adapter!!!
The xr-i is a magnetic pickup could i use an adapter from msd or anything else???
I hope i can use the tach because it's a beautifull n.i.b piece.

    here is a pic
