Any info on factory backed 1970 stage 2 gsx? The only info I can find is that there were two made and one burnt up in a fire and that the other one was "put away"????? I think my father in law found the one that was "put away"! Just trying to find out some info on this car! If you have heard anything please respond! THANKS BIG KEV o No:
How about posting some pictures of it? Maybe someone knows what car #2 looked like, and could identify it with a picture.o No:
It looks like all the other white 70 stage 2 gsx. I don't have any pictures yet but will get some! It is an automatic. black interior, no air, factory rear air shocks, factory drive shaft safty hoop, hood tack, every thing a gsx stage 1 has but with stage 2 emblems and stage 2 engine parts! AND 7200 miles :jd: :beer
Not to be pushy, but..... WE NEED PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm OK now. Dan
I'm not the sole expert on this subject, but over the last five years I have gathered a fair amount of info. Here is what I know. 3 Stage 2 cars were put togehter by the Buick engineers none of which were GSX's, they were GS's. These were the only cars with the full Stage 2 treatment, I think because there was little stuff too like different windage tray, pulleys. If you see the magazine article with Denny Manner showing off the Stage 2 package there are a lot of little parts. One of the cars was used as a demo for magazine people, a bunch of them had the chance to beat the crap out of it. I saw a re-print back in `86-`87 of this article written by the guy who was next in line to drive it, but the previous driver threw a rod I think and the car caught fire. That car got parted and the hood is on the Jones and Benisek car that I think Tom Rix now owns. One of the others was bought by Dave Johnson who use to work at TA and might have sold it since, not sure. And the third had dissapeared, back in the day it went to a dealer on the east coast I believe. My understanding is that there was no associated paperwork to identify these cars. These were done completely unofficial by Denny Manner and other Buick engineers. Probably the only way to tell is the hood, I believe it is a stamped out piece (all steel) and that it was not available over the counter. Tom Rix or Dave Johnson might be able to provide details on the hood. Now there were approx. 75 sets of heads sold over the counter that were put on after the car left the factory, again not documentable. Unless some one had the original reciept. Many people have been under the impression that they found the last car, but they haven't panned out yet. here is a link to our website that has some other info http://www.taperformance.com/stage2.htm Dave
