Just got back from a track rental at Epping NH. We brought up my buddys back halfed GN (Greg Looker, my head porter & designer of the EX. port on the T/A Stage 1 aluminum head) the cars been sitting for 2 years after he broke the rear & drive shaft at E-town. First pass on the foot brake was 9.093 @ 148.30 1.31 60 foot it was 38 degrees today, next pass another 9.09 then we changed carbs from a 1050 hp to a 1150 hp (Thanks to Doug Hecker) We went 9.026 @ 150.23 1.311 60 foot we went rite back up and went a 9.024 @ 150.30 same 60 foot. So close we could taste it our next pass was going to be our last so i wanted to check the plugs Greg had autolite3924 plugs in it so i changed them to AR 3910 and we went back up, and this is what we got 8.995 @ 150.68 1.309 60 foot, the 60 foot was way off the tires are 3 years old weve gone 1.260 before. It was a great day !!!! We can add his name to the 8sec. list. The car is 3100# with driver 500ci with stage4 heads.....
Awsome,::TU: John a few questions it looks like the the 1150 picked up 2 mph over the 1050. :eek2: So the motor definately like the bigger carb. My question is was that a tuned carb or a out of the box one. If I remember correctly Dougs carb was one from Gary Williams. Second would you expect to see similar results on a smaller motor like a 482 with a 1150.
That carb picked up on my car also from a 9.71 @ 138 with my 1050 hp then i put on dougs carb and ran a best of 9.60 @ 139 the carb works great, the motor in my car now is a bunch of used stuff its 12.3 to 1 small solid cam, 6.535 shorter than stock aluminum rod (used $100 bucks) 2" crank, (given to me by my buddy Greg), and the rods are 2.100 im running king spacer bearings (borrowed stage 1 s/e aluminum heads, from my buddy Greg also) NO BLOCK GIRLDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this combo has about 175 runs on it and my last pass was my fastest.I spoke to Gary Willams today and he told me that that carb is an off the shelf bracket carb, he told me to send my carb to him and he could make it full race for about $700 and it would out run dougs carb and he said if it didnt hed take it back and send me a new stock HP and my money back, so you know where my carbs going i cant loose with that kind of deal. I know im gonna get flamed for this but awhile ago i sent pro systems a 1050 he did it up for my combo and it ran a tenth and a half slower even 1 mph slower after sending it back a few times i got it to run as good as my stock 1050 (witch i kept so i could compare them) so i sold it. so id try one of Gary Willams carbs before anyone elses. Later John:3gears:
John, As always thank you for this is invaluable info. :TU: I also talk to Gary Williams and he was pointing me towards an 1150. That is some eye opening info on the Pro Systems experiment. My old style 1050 just just went back up for sale.
1) My carb may been "off the shelf" from Gary Williams, buuuutt.... 2) Scotty dyno-tuned it for me. 3) GIVE ME MY CARB BACK!!!! :blast:
Doug, How much of a difference do you think the dyno tuning Scotty did make in the performance of the carb?
Can't say for sure, but he certainly knows his stuff. He runs in the 6.90s at over 200 mph in the Camaro. You might want to call him and ask him yourself, in case you want him to do one for you. Scotty's Racing Technology. 727-857-0001
