Imagine if old Buick engines ran on today's technology?

Just think about it: imagine what the old Buick engines would run like if they used today's engine management technology? I'm talking, variable valve timing, fuel injection,ECMs,coil fire ignition. What would these engines run like? I would say like a bat out hell!!!!! Of course, for their old technology, the old engines ran extremely well for what they had.

But you'd not be able to service it youself, any modifications would require mega-buck parts, etc. etc.

Go pop the hood of a Honda or something with VVT and all that - see how much "stuff" there is there, see how much you can actually recognise as being a car part!

A buddy of mine had a new Renault Velsatis on loan from the dealer, so I wen to have a look and being car guys we had the hood right up. Theres a cover that goes right the way across . It only allows you to get at the oil filler cap and the radiator cap. There is a sign cast into the engine bay cover which says "to be removed by Renault Service Personel only"

I'm waiting to see one that has oneof those "Warranty Void if Seal is Broken" stickers you get on TVs and such.

Moddifying under developed old type engines is great because you can make big gains in power and torque. On a modern engine there not much extra to find unles you get into real pricy mods.

I guess if you want to see what a '70 Skylark motor would have looked like with todays techology back then, go pop the hood of a Cadillac with the Northstar V8 or a Vette with the LS6.

One can sort of see what this would like by popping the hood of any Land Rover Disco, Range Rover (and maybe Rover cars, too, not sure, though). They all are based on what originaly was a Buick engine.

I think either Rolls or Bentley have that now. I don't think They want the owners looking under the bonnet. Probably a sticker on the header panel,"No user serviceable parts inside".

Interesting that you bring up this topic, Carl! I bought a Super Chevy/CHEVELLES magazine yesterday, about CHEVELLES (only for useful info for GS upgrades!:TU: ).

They did an article about a '70 Chevelle SS that they put a 2003 LS6 (Corvette) engine in!:eek2:
This car should be SCARY to drive! ALL ALUMINUM engine ("NO" weight, making over 400HP), with an Overdrive transmission, 4 wheel Disc Brakes, Full Performance Suspension upgrades... I can't even imagine driving a car like THAT around, but I'd LOVE to! The cool thing is that all the parts they used for the conversion were AVAILABLE through GM Dealers, as NEW parts!:bglasses:

If you get a chance, BUY IT!:Smarty: A lot of "valuable" information about "suspension", "brakes", and "transmissions" to use with your Skylark/GS cars!:TU:

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

I agree Scott!! Contrary to popular belief, Super Chevy is NOT a worthless magazine!!:TU:

Alot of good ideas and products can be transferred over to the 'other GM brands'!!:Brow: :TU:

For a $1 or less per issue - if you subscribe - you get your moneys worth!! Fortunately, my brother still gets it, so I don't have to!!:Brow: :Brow:
