I'm sorry to get on here and bother you guys :Brow: but my wife is really tired of hearing about my car. I parked the Regal back in September because it was overheating horribly. I later found out I had two big problems and two not so big: I had a very lean condition because the vacuum advance on the dist. was broken allowing excessive air to be sucked in to the carb and the custom exhaust job was done poorly with 2" pipes that were crunched going over the axle not allowing the motor to breathe. Then the 5 blade fan was pulling enough air and my fan clutch wasn't very tight. I bought a Crane vac advance kit and had the exhaust redone to 2 1/2" mandrel bent (for free). I was also losing about a quart of oil a day through the crank rope seal. I bought the neoprene seal and now no oil drips from anywhere! I bought a 7 blade fan and clutch from a bone yard out of a Cadillac. And lastly I had all kinds of backlash noise coming from my lame 2.41 rear-end so I pulled a 3.08 out of a Camaro and took the shims and races, etc. as well. I dropped that in last weekend but didn't get a chance to test it. Last night I double checked all my bolts with a torque wrench and charged up the battery. It wasn't until midnight that I actually got to start the car. Then I flushed the radiator and changed the oil. About 12:30am I took it down the road and couldn't believe the differences in power. My dad said he could hear me yelling YOOO WHOOO as I went down the road. I pulled back in the garage and checked for leaks and stuff. All was looking good except it was getting too hot again. I checked my timing and found it to be retarded -2*. Whoa! I advanced it to +10* and took it for another test drive. Holy Smokes!!!! Yeah, I'm definitely getting tags put on it. MARK
Bother us? Hell, that's the best success story I've heard in months. Congrats on the successful fireup! Now send some of that luck my way...
You fine folks are the ones I have to thank and, of course, this awesome forum. Thanks for the encouragement and helpful hints. I most definitely couldn't have done it without you. MARK
Mark, If you don't mind I think I'll just live my fantasys through you until I'm up and running. Man!!! Now you got me waiting for your first stop light encounter with those mods.
Yes sir, I'm sure there will be plenty of stop light stories to tell. I can't wait to start on the body work this spring.
Good news, good news Mark, that is really great news to hear. Glad you got her going and will be able to continue with your Buick fix this summer!! Consider yourself lucky I didn't have a job this year. It would have been in my garage if I had the cash earlier!! Now, go out and have some fun!! :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:
Hey Mark, congrats on the new found love~again. Should have put the neopene seal on first when you had the cover first shipped to you. Either way, glad it's finally running good for you.
Yeah, yeah...should have, would have... :Brow: I guess I never realized how bad the rope seal was. Or maybe it was how bad I installed it. MARK
yo bro Yo bro haven't heard from you for awhile, you want to give me a hand with my three Buick's, and of couse the Bel Air?
Yeah, now that I have mine running I think I'm on a lucky streak. Besides, I'm going to need another ride when I'm having my body work done. Maybe we can find a weekend to play while the women and kids go spend our money at the mall. MARK
Hey Dan come on over! I don't know when but we should plan something. My brother lives in Shelby which is about 45 minutes north of me.
