So I wanted to order up a set of date coded ignition wires. My 70 was made 03A- first week of March. What would be considered correct? [Edit- its a March car so its 03A not 04Aou:]
Ya think? o No: I thought that those would be too close to the production date. I read that they're supposed to be at least 6 months prior.
X2 1-Q-70, defintely not 1-Q-69. At one time you could buy all 4 qtrs repro, last I knew you could only buy 2 qtrs per year. Maybe they are down to 1 qtr now.
Boy Im really screwing this up. What a dumbass. I meant to type 3-Q-69. :spank: Sorry guys, I think I got it straight now. The choices were 3-Q-69 or 1-Q-70 for an 03A build.
Never say never. I got to take a good look at a low mileage 70 Stage-1 a few years ago and it was an April built car and it had 1969 date code wires on it. I cannot remmeber if it was 3rd or 4th qtr. You have to remember Delco popped out millions of wires per year so these wires may have really been backlogged. Just my opinion. Also a quarter covers 3 months so the delay may not be as long as it appears.
Good point o the backlog, but I would vote for 1-Q-70 just because your car is a 1970 March built car. Rick
ordered the 1-Q-70 wires from Lectric Limited through CARS in NJ and got them the other day. Put them on today Im impressed. The wires are very nice. The set came with a sheet with the wire lengths of every wire and what plug they should go to. They fit perfectly and look awesome! They really give the engine that original look. Highly recommended even for an unrestored car (like mine)
Do yourself a favor and check the resistance on each wire. Had a serious issue with a brand new coil repop date coded wire that caused lots of grief.
Don't worry Ken, I have this nifty factory Delco wire tester- http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?217181-Vintage-delco-ignition-wire-tester-questions&highlight=wire+tester Here's a couple pics of the wires on my crusty looking engine-
