I figuered ta would make some more copper head gaskets for me since they were out of stock on 40 thou copper head gaskets. WRONG. I even asked for 10 set to be made and they said no. I have 0-ringed blocks with copper to make a tight seal with a copper gasket but now I have no choice but to go with Cometic gaskets.

Exept....Cometic "Does not have to tooling to make these gaskets" even though they made them for Bill M........

Come on TA, either help us get some Cometic gaskets or stamp out some copper ones so we can start boosting!

I know a lot of you guy's don't know me but I am half owner of finishline motorsports. We sell big block parts mail order to a lot of racers. I saw your issue and we are working on it but this time of year is a bad time to get ansewers so give me a couple weeks past the first of the year. we may start looking at stocking other items if we see a need for them but I can't afford to stock stuff if it won't sell. We are building a p1sc procharged motor for my sons car this winter. This is his first car so we are setting it up to remove the belt when he is driving around town but when we go to the track he can stand on it. So as you can see I do have some interest in this forum and it's needs because they are going to be my needs also. Let me know if you want us to move forward on this or not.

    Sean,
SCE Gaskets will custom make them. Should be less of a wait this time of year since not race season. Last spring they told me 8 to 12 weeks. Don't know if this helps. 800-427-5380 or scegaskets.com

If you mill the heads and the block flat you should be able to just use silicon sealer with no head gasket. Humm. I think i will go have a beer and think about that one. Belch Ahhh.

yea but wouldnt that mess with you compression ratio...or would it just be true to the pistion now since the thicker gasket wont lower the rated cr of the piston?

Yeah it would let us use a 231 forged piston and keep compression good. It is easy to enlarge the head chanbers anyway to make comp lower!

how would this technique work on a hot street car?

I still think the best bet is to use a copper head gasket and an O-ring that sits in a groove around the top of the cyl. The O-ring sits slightly taller than the head gasket thinkness which makes a tight seal around the cyl chamber.

Having a run of copper head gaskets should be no problem for any of the above suppliers (TA is out of stock and refused to make more LOL). I will offer to lend my O-ring tool to anyone whe donates toward our research fund and the more copper gaskets I have made the cheeper they are.

Thr oring would seal against the head. How much could you save if you din't have to buy head gasket?

The o-ring would seal the cylinders compresion and the silicone would seal the water passages. Use a late model block with the high deck. You may want to try this on a engine stand befor triing in car.

Ps the bad typing was after i had the brews.

I've had some of my Chevy friends using Mylar sealant with no gaskets and o ringed blocks on s charged applications,it's not hardening and used on Rolls heads for a long time, they swear by it and I have used it on industrial applications, good stuff.May be worth the try.I think that TA has bigger fish to fry at this time and I'm really hoping for their sbb AL heads in the future.Good luck.

I was talking about my by bad typing and yes it was after some brews.

GS Jonny won those high comp 60 over pistons at the last minute over me so you may wanna drop by the bpg forum and give him some input on boring over so much.

    Thanks Dan!
