Get your minds out of the gutter! I was getting my 455 ready for a major clean-up and do a quick repaint on it so I can get it stuffed in the '55 and I saw this... it looks to be a drain hole. It had a little fluid (oil I believe) dripping out. Of course, I couldn't find an appropriate pipe plug or bolt in my inventory, so I have to chase something down tomorrow before scrubbing it..... but what the heck is this? Educate the newbie! This is a 1973 vintage block. If it helps to orient you, the bottom right is the oil filter. Is this a drain I have to plug or just some accessory mounting hole? Anyone know the bolt/thread size off hand?
Ah! ou: Thanks! I bet I have something to pop in there after all, then. This is one grubby mess so far LOL I'll let the winner have the locked up air pump I threw out.. I mean... set aside. I think it was an air pump anyway....
Actually, that's the port in the block for the turbo drain line. Back in the 70's Buick engineers knew this dinosaur motor would need some help to make it go fast.  Several years later they discovered the secret - V6. OOPS!!!:Brow:
Ah ... I believe we have multiple winners.... except for the V6 man! Just kidding! Because of the excess crud, it's hard to tell, but there is a 1/8 pipe thread hole to the left of the one that's circled. The one that's circled is much larger. Oh well... I need to buy a whole wad of pipe plugs today anyway Thanks again, everyone!
MORE HORSE--------------POWER. Did anyone ever figure out how much HP>>>>>>YOU would have if YOU had two more cylinders. Not complaining, mind you as it moves right along, but it is only half the size of a normal car, and is being repaired half of the time.   Harold Rolls.:TU:
1/4" threads, arn't you going to tear down for a hot tank anyways? What 1/8" hole are you refering to? I don't know of one in the block. The plug way back is a coolant drain. 1/4" also. I put petcocks there on both sides of the block for drains:Brow:
it's a tiny li'l hole about 2 inches left of the one I circled. A petcock is definitely way too big for that one. Won't be hot-tanking any time soon since it's a running engine. My goal is to get it in the '55 get the setup all fleshed out and when it get's closer to being finished... THEN do a tear down. I may be mad, but there is method to my madness :Brow:
If you talking about the ones down by the oil pan rail, those are blind and don't go into oil/water. Don't need to plug.:TU: If you don't mind paint coming off too, Mr. Muscle Industrial Strength Oven Cleaner is up to the task!! Like restaurants use.:Brow:
Harold: Ouch, that one hurt. It's the other half of the time when it is running that makes it all worth the effort. Hope to see you in Flint.
Jim, Thanks for the correction, I meant 1/4 NPT but I was in my "small" mind state. I was thinking about the tube fitting, but then realized it has a reducer bushing in the block.
Oh>>>>>>>>>>>>Oh. O-----------Dear. They are going to let you into Flint? Hope to be there. Harold Rolls.:TU:
