Id on part attached to coil .

    Hello everyone, all the schematic and engine pictures I’ve seen I haven’t seen this part before . I know the pink wire comes from the wiring harness and the black from the distributor which normally connect to the coil. But this device has the pink on one end and the the other connecting to the coil almost like a fuseable link ? Also there are Both a red and black wire coming from the bottom of the distributor? Can you guys tell me what this is and if I need it ? Thanks

    That looks like an ignition coil resistor; I know Ford used them.

    Ballast resistor, in place of the factory resistor wire.

    Is the ignition system converted to electronic?

    Take off the distributor cap: if there are points, it's still original.
