This is an old GM dealership in my little home town. It is for sale. It is 100' x65' and in very good shape. I believe it was built in the late 40's early 50's. Has an indoor wash rack and hydraulic lift. ...........hmmmmm..........wnder if I could talk the wife into moving into this thing with me.........plenty of room to build a 3 bedroom 2 bath living area inside............lotsa room for cars. Oh well, we can dream can't we!
prolly not zoned for living space, but why not find out how much - then get a few buddies together and make it a HotRod Garage ?? Start a small business.....working on what you want to, and even if you just flip the property in a few years you'll prolly make some $$$$
I would kill for that space. I currently pay about $900 a year for storage. Find 10 others like me and you could swing the payments. I keep looking for the right building.. and it already has a lift :ball:
Yeah Mark-- A friend of mine that has a restoration business, where I did most of the work on my '72, did something similar. He was raised in a small town near Austin---Taylor---and he knew all the buildings, etc. As Austin got too crowded he started looking around back in Taylor and found an old car dealership there (also from the 30s or 40s) and ended up leasing it and moving his business there. More space for less $$$ and a much cooler building. Showroom, big large sliding monster wood doors under a covered-entrance service area, etc. Some dude was living in it prior to my friend's leasing the place but it wasn't really set up for any comfort. I'm not sure. The current owner lives in California and needs to unload the property. There is about a half million dollar speed boat on the inside also. Now I hear he is asking $100k for it!!! Sorry, can't swing it. I guess I will have to go back to plan "A", which is build a small shop behind my house.
100K, while a lot of money, is honestly really cheap for something like that. I'd sell the house and jump on it! Or see if you could make payments or something.
I've already drawn out a floor plan. On the end where the showroom is, there used to be the old offices. it already has central air and heat. I could easily build a 3 BR 2 Bath living area, and have about 5000 square feet left for the shop. Man, I would love to get it. It's a car lovers dream. Unfortunately my wife is not a car lover.
Mark, You may be able to buy it for a lot less than they are asking. My shop used to be a Lonestar convienience store. The building needed quite a bit of work but they were asking $130k at one time for it. I paid much less than that and did all the repairs and rebuilding myself. It took me about a year but now it is worth about 3 or 4 times what I have invested in it. You never know what kind of offer they might entertain. All they can do is say no to a low offer. Nothing to lose. Randy
