I need to respray to repair a scratch. How would you mask it?

As above folks. I have a long scratch on the top side of the rear quarter (area circled).
I am considering using blending tape and masking along the bottom of the sail panel area and hust below the horizontal body line.
Does that seem reasonable? If you would do it differently, please do tell. Thanks. Ed Screenshot_20231216_161535_Photos.jpg

Is the scratch on the peak itself?

I would use the ez edge tape on the body line....sand with 1200 a little below the body line...then I would sand the sail with 1000 up to the roof....then burn the clear halfway up ....after 2 cts add 50% reducer to however much clear left in the cup and melt your clear in the sail....

If it's on the peak....I would sand it and drag with a brush ...drag with clear and rub it out

    Thanks Ethan,
The scratch is on the peak. I tried fixing with a brush, but couldn't get it looking good enough. I would always be staring at that spot if I don't make it as flawless as possible.
When you say "burn" the clear, what does that mean exactly? Thanks again.

With a large enough area backsanded up to the roof you turn the psi down and lay the clear in the valley on the first coat..second coat go another 1in or so past where you stopped. Then if you have say 4oz of clear left you add 20z if reducer and put a wisp coat over the edge of where you stopped with the clear on the sail panel. Overlap the edge an inch or so on the clear and a few in up the sail into the sanded area...NOT HEAVY you run it here you're screwed...just enough to make it even....once it's dry you sand with 1500 down into valley or the whole are you painted if need be then back up to the roof ..then buff.. if done correctly it will melt ba k in and be 99.9% undetectable

Well, my repair attempt was sub par to put it generously. I resprayed the entire section affected yesterday.
Sorry, I have been too obsessed with fixing it to think about posting re my results.
Thanks again Ethan. I should have just bit the bullet from the get and resprayed. I had a couple other blemishes that are now fixed. Pictures to come shortly.... I need to let it cure and address a few nibs.
