I can't believe it! I actually beat my friends 340 Duster tonight. We both made a left outta Jerry's (Our local carhop joint) and slowed to about ten mph before getting it on. He was either game off, or the Regal ate it's wheaties, but I walked away nicely. At least a car length! Must be that new Hurst T handle I just put in. Felt DARN good I must say. His car is no slouch. Its got a mild built 69 340, 727, and a 3.55 sure grip out back. O well, for whatever reason, tonight was my night!!!:3gears:

That is nice, I had a friend with a 340 Demon 4spd and that car pulled like a freight train on the top end.

About 20 years ago when I used to have my old '66 Riv, a co-worker had a stock 340 duster with a 4 speed, I don't remember specifically how many miles were on it but it may have been a little tired. We both worked at Goodyear.

Anyway, after I had freshly rebuilt my 425, completely stock, stock cam, 3:42 gears, he and I raced from a dead start for about 2 or 3 blocks. In my opinion, it was a tie even though the half car length between us kept changing until we slowed down. I wanted to keep going but he backed off just as we became neck and neck at around 90.

He claimed he gave me a head start b/c he couldn't get traction, that was probably true b/c he had stock tires but so did I and mine broke loose at the start also. He also had a full race Dodge Demon that he raced and he knew how to race, but nonetheless was impressed by the power of my Nailhead. He used to call my Riv "the queen mary".

Big thing with the 340 mopar is they build their power up high. Buicks are torque monsters, plain and simple...
