I mailed a letter 2 years ago, and ......

  1. .... it just arrived in Oregon a few days ago!

Shortly after I bought my 68 back in September 2001, I mailed a letter to the original owner in Portland OR, introducing myself, telling how I got his name from the protecto plate, and asking if he could provide me with some history on the car. I also included my email address at the time, and a stamped self-addressed envelope, ... which I just got back from him in today's mail!

Well, the last name was the same, but not the first name. It may be a son or other relative, he didn't really say. Turns out his family only owned the car from May 68 to early 1971, putting about 50k on it. They then traded it back in to the same dealer, Braley and Graham Buick in Portland, all original and in very good condition. He states they hardly ever see rust on cars around there, unless they are by the coast. It shows on the underbody too, still very clean. Unfortunately, he states he has no other original paperwork for the car. All I have is the warranty booklet with protecto plate.

Mike Trom, I have asked him in my email reply about the stainless body side trim pieces, whether he remembers if they were on the car back then. I will certainly let you know what he remembers. I've asked him some more questions, and hope he can supply some more details about the car back in those days. :)

    2 years?

Wow, those pony express riders are really slowing down. :Brow:

At least it got there, and they were nice enough to respond. Not enough of that kind of decency in the world today.

Maybe it came through our Post Office. Two years and still closed but at least they just did the first gassing of the place to try and kill the spores.

Wow. Two years. Thats a really long time. And that is a really good story about the history of your Buick. It's amazing how this information just turns up out of nowhere.

    What was the postmark date?

  10. I had run the SAS envelope thru our postage meter at work, so it was dated Sept 2001. That postmark was cancelled out and a 37 cent stamp was on the envelope. I suppose he figured it wouldn't get to me with only .34 on it, and just stuck a regular stamp on it too.

He had tried to email me last week, but I don't have the same address anymore that I had included in the letter, so he just used the envelope I had provided. I don't believe he is the original owner, probably his son. I sent him a lengthy email Friday night, but he hasn't replied to it yet.
