Yeah, crap traction sucks. That's going to be my next mountain to climb. My best run is a 14.9 @ 100mph (second half on 7 cylinders), but I have a whole bunch of 16.2's and a few 15.5's.

The rematch is on for 8/15! They're (PBIR) having a big hot rod show with car show, test and tune and gamblers race. The wizard says I can safely let my rear tires down to 20LBS. Whatsay you experts? I already have the 12v air pump to reair to get home. I plan to avoid the water and if forced into it again do a full burnout and back in to the slot. Rest assured I'll have long pants!

The GTO hasn't made up his mind as to tires but has changed out his fuel pump to add more capability. He was running his carbs dry and going through popping and spiting. I hope no one tells him to take the progressive linkage out of the 3-2s.

Remember Chuck, I already offered you a pair of DR's.
But anyway, unless it's a Drag Radial tire, you'll "cup" a radial street tire at only 20 lbs, thus not getting full footprint. :3gears:

Yea , thanks much for the offer of the DRs --- RapidRick

It's not worth it for 1 or 2 runs. The DRs might bring me back to the bog that I had initially with the car. Besides I'm running the smaller rear with ring and pinion with 120k on them. I know what the car will do with the street tires and if I stay dry will do a light burn out just for feel and if forced into the water trap will light them up real good and back into the lights.

Take your tools and head out to a test-n-tune session.

The only way you'll do better is to get to know your car better and practice racing. You will end up with more skill and confidence and have a much better chance of beating your friend.

You didn't mention your MPH which is the real measure of horsepower on a drag strip. I'm guessing you were 85-88 mph at a 16 second E.T. If I guessed right, you are down on power and need a serious tuning exercise to go much faster.

Plugs/points/condenser/wires, timing, and making sure your carb is doing something similar to it's purpose all need to be addressed.

Do all of this stuff in the semi-private world of t-n-t night and you won't have to live through the humiliation again -
