im at this company right now that i really dont like. its way stressfull and im pretty much the only one doing my task well enough to count on. i have two assistants but together, they cant get half the amount of work that i do. iv been trying to get another job for some time now and monday, i get a call out of the blue.

its an owner of a sign shop saying he was refered to me from another place i applied at. thinking hes gonna match what im making here which is 15/hr. where the good part comes in is the place im at right now wont want to let me go so i figure theyll either bump me up a few bucks or pay me salary and let me work from home. the 45 hours of work i do now, i could do at home in 15. if all this works out i figure id be getting 60,000 + a year. how cool would that be!!! not a lot compared to most, but still damn good for a 22 year old. :TU: i have an interview with the guy today so we'll see how it goes!

    Pete,

At 22 I started make decent money at the PO. I saved nothing and still overspent myself. I hope you make the big bucks but please save some! I'm finally catching up a little after about eight really tough years. DON"T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU! Avoid credit cards and wait for the paychecks till you buy your performance car parts. Money is no good unless spent, however, leave some for future. I hope you don't mind the advice. going from age twentysomething to 34 broke is NOT fun. Good luck!

yep never had a credit card though I should look into getting one for some emergencies (maybe buy just gas with it) need to have some credit to have a credit rating.

i also don't own a cell phone nor do I have a car payment.

the only monthly bills I have now are my rent, internet, electricity, and now just added and expensive.... student loans. ouch $200 a month.

I still have car insurance and gas to buy and still don't have a decent job lined up... aint this a wonderful :blast: economy

Dan - From a common sense point of view - I totally agree!! It's good not to buy stuff if you can't pay for it now or by the time the next cc statement comes out.

    However....having said that...

The best way to build up your credit (at least in the minds of the 3 major agencies - and so far, they're the ones that matter:rolleyes: ) is to have enough 'tradelines' established in your credit report.

You need to have at least 4 or 5 good accounts, showing a lenthy and PROMPT payment history!! These 'tradelines' would include any loans, credit cards, car payments, department stores, etc.

Use credit cards to YOUR advantage....keep the accounts open, DON'T run up the balance (try to only use the cards as long as you can pay them off right away). It actually helps your credit 'score' to have a small balance on these accounts - it shows that you're able to carry a balance and still make all your payments.

When you're buying a house, most lenders want to see accounts with at least 12 or 24 month histories on EACH of your accounts (at least 4 of them).

**As a Mortgage Broker that has to pull credit reports for people, I've seen the spectrum from incredibly solid credit...to really sorry credit!! It's a real shame to have to tell someone that they aren't able to get a loan for the house they have their heart set on, simply because their credit report shows either not enough of a credit history...or worse...a poor payment history.

Or...the person gets the loan, BUT, ends up paying a very high interest rate based on their credit report.

Another thing that really hurts your credit score, is having a lot of 'pulls' on your credit. If you go car shopping and visit 4 or 5 lots, and each of those places pulls your credit, your credit score goes down a fair amount!! :Dou:

Unfortunately, alot of folks don't realize that every time they apply for a new credit card, or loan, etc. - they run the risk of lowering their credit score.

Too much credit = a BAD thing!!

No or little credit = also a bad thing!!

Good Credit = a GOOD thing!! :TU: :TU:

Good luck, I hope you get the money you deserve. I am 23 and know how you feel about being a talented worker and dedicated and not being recognized by your superiors. I was making about the same amount of cash you were before I joined the military. I came in with a lot of credit card debt, those things are evil!!!! The military has classes that taught me how to manage money well, and save and plan for the future. Now I am debt free and have thousands of dollars saved up in retirement plans, plus not having to pay rent or electricity in base housing! Not trying to gloat, just saying serving for that favorite uncle has it's perks. Once again I've been there, good luck and don't settle for less than what you truly deserve.:TU:

well turns out i had the job if i wanted it. but i came in and talked to my bosses and dicided not to show my cards yet. i just came out and asked them what my future was here. i told them my goal was to be equals with them and they said it was truly possible. and that it was basicly up to me as to how far i could go in this place.

so im sticking it out here as much as i hate all the bs. i have some side projects with i freind of mine to get the extra cash i was looking for. :TU:

Sounds like you made the right choice, despite the draw from the other job. I've had my share of thoughts about moving companies because I was not happy where I was, but it all works out in the end if you stick with it. Being patient has its perks. Although I don't know what that feels like most of the time:grin: I think I'm one of the most impatient people when it comes to certain things.....like cars:Brow:

charge what the job is worth.

The worst thing you can do is gain business by under-bidding. It hurts you and the entire industry in the long run. I don't do much as far as vehicle graphics, other than commercial vehicles. There are a couple other shops in town that specialize in that sort of work, and charge a lot less than it would take to get me to crawl all over someone elses car installing that stuff.

Subscribe to Signcraft & AutoArt magazines.

    .....and have fun.

If you want to, you can see some of the stuff I do at the shop here:
