I reminded myself of this kill while telling a related story yesterday...

I used to work with this real turd who loved to tell people haw bad-ass his Mustang was, He constantly ripped my Galaxie's condition as it was in badly in need of an overhaul.

Years later, I had restored the Galaxie and using it as my daily driver while I was coming home from work. I was the first one at the light when guess who pulls up next to me in some Honda with a big wing and bass-boat paint. At his point the Galaxie is cherry with new paint, interior, Cragar SS rims, fat tires and extra goodies.

I hear a "Hey Byron!" and I look over and see this total jerk from my past laughing with his buddies. He says "Is that thing fast yet?" which I replied "Maybe..." and as if it were scripted, I saw the side light turn yellow. I began to power brake right there making a lot of exhaust noise and smoke. Though the police station was there, this just had to be worth it. The light went green and I lost this clown by dozens of car lengths.

After I made my point, I slowed down, he flew by, and I never saw him again.

I'm curious, what have you got in that Galaxie?? I seem to recall they were available with a plethora of engine options, from a 302 up to the police interceptor 429's.

B's got a 390 in it, but he's still amazed at the torque of his 350. :3gears:

The Galaxie sports a 390, "medium" Comp cam, 1969 Ford "S"-stamped 4 bbl iron intake (all Galaxie 390's in '69 came with factory 2bbl) and an Edelbrock 700 CFM carb. Also a factory FMX tranny and factory 2.75 gears. Tires are 275/60/15 which give buttloads of grip and are quite a bit shorter and much wider than the stock 205/75/15 All of the drivetrain is factory to the best of my knowlege and the stamp on the door confirms the options, making a difficult decision to even change the setup. I still have all of the original parts somewhere with the exception of the carb which I used on another car. :Dou: Stupid!!! I should have kept that carb!

The race project consists of setting the Century to the specs of NASA's American Iron series which should be relatively inexpensive as compared to the other racing clubs and classes I have been researching. The website is:

Which is a class sanctioned by:

I'm not doing this for the checkered glory, but just to do it and learn the hard way a little something about racing.

Oh- 64 Skybird - to elaborate on the Galaxie engine options, I beleive a 6 banger was an option on the "cut down" 500 models, but the biggest and baddest motor option was the 429 4V "Thunder Jet" (your choice 3 speed auto or 4 speed manual) - However, I have the 1969 Ford Performance Catalog which shows you could also get a dual quad iron intake, headers, cams and other performance mods installed straight from the factory with a custom order.
