Since this is a Nailhead specific question I'm posting it here. Anybody using a hydraulic throwout bearing in a 65 66 GS bellhousing? with my headers and the location of my combination valve for brakes I don't think I can use the factory linkage.
I did, but it was a pain in the butt with the fully closed bell as the hydraulic bearing housing has to be put over the input shaft and on the stud (replacing one top bolt on the front bearing retainer), and the pressure and bleed lines had to be routed through the hole where the original shaft was removed. (had to remove the shaft from the bell in order to use the hydraulic bearing) I purchased a Bendtsen bellhousing. It indexed without any extra work. And when I replaced the T-10 with the TKO, it was no hassle. I was able to get the fiberglass transmission dust cover for open bell housing (nailhead) and it works fine. (I think I got that from Centerville) https://transmissionadapters.com/pr...nual-transmission?_pos=1&_sid=4485c4b41&_ss=r Hope that helps.
That does help thank you. I'm thinking that it's a shame to waste a complete 6566 GS manual transmission setup if I'm going to use a hydraulic bearing. May as well use a Bendtsen bell housing as well. I may ditch the headers and see if I can work around the combination valve. I suppose I could move it yet again. I don't know if the TA headers interfere with the factory 4-speed setup.
I passed along all the 65/66 bell, z-bar and linkage parts I had, as I was missing a couple of the parts to make it complete, and since it's all in a '64 and originality was not an issue, I went with the hydraulic bearing to simplify things. No regerts.
