Any feedback on these from anyone? Opinion vs. having an original rebuilt by shifter-doc and an orig. handle re-chromed? Is the handle correct shape/lettering? I'm usually anti-repro parts but given this is made by the OEM maybe it's equivalent (or even better?) to the orig.? Made in China?
I would consider it to be on par with the OE Parts. We've installed 2 so far with ZERO issues. . . . . At the time I did not have an original to compare to side by side. (we had sent out the original for this car but it was not restored/re-plated in time for our customers deadline so we put the repro in and he was happy with it and left it in) Not sure where it's made but not many Restoration Parts made in the USA anymore so . . . . . . .
They make two styles. The press-in,for the factory/OEM shifter mechanism, and the bolt-on,for the aftermarket Hurst mechanism. I have installed both without any issues.
You can view that car (along with others) on my Website's "Restoration" section . . . . . https://www.stage1restoration.com/1970-buick-gs-4-speed/ .
Is this sold as a complete unit with the comp-plus mechanism or just the shifter handle? Steve weim55 Colorado
Would this work for a bench seat 66 Skylark? Planning on a 4spd conversion. Does it come with complete with the linkage rods, or is there anything else needed to install when doing a conversion from an automatic?
There's a couple threads (at least one comprehensive & maybe more) detailing everything required to do the conversion. I doubt this comes w/rods. I know some are reproduced but depends on what trans you're using.
I really can't say for sure if this would work in your application . . . (haven't been down that exact road)
I haven’t done a 66,but I have mounted and used them on the AutoGear 4-speeds. Their cases have the same bolt/boss locations as a traditional Muncie,so that isn’t an issue. I don’t see why that setup wouldn’t work in a 66. Did those bench/4-speed cars have a straighter handle that didn’t hit the seat?
I have used this shifter in my car for 30 years. The stick has the same contours as the original stick with 2 differences. The stick is about 2 inches shorter and the edges might be a bit more rounded. For those of you who attended the Nationals this year, my red 68 that I ran in BSA has this shifter in it.
