I am going to be installing a 5 speed TKO manual transmission convertion kit from American powertrain, into my 70 GS 455 clone. I need the proper part #,or dimentions of the shifter stick, the kit is not specific for a 70 Buick. I think im going with the hydro. clutch set up, being that the car is not an original, this to me is the smarter choice over mechical. The salesman told me that it wont feel any different, except about 20% less pedel force, and would be much easyer to install, being that i have full lenth headers,. Any feed back would be appricated. Thanks Kelly

Are you sure that TKO is going to fit inside the original tunnel? I dont think it will.

The factory chrome shifter handle is #5335. its very similar in appearance to a 68-72 442 non console handle. But the factory shifter handle is a slip fit while the aftermarket shifters have a bolt on handle

you need to do a litle research, you have to cut up the tunnel for t to fit, and to get the right driveshaft angle..in other words, you just cant let it hang down and call it good....

do a search here, ive seena post about it, and the guy gave great pics and info...alot of cutting...

American powertrain, mills the transmission so there is no cutting required, they cater to peple how dont want to chop up there car, i did my research, they garantee it. I would like to here from someone that bought a tranmission from them and had to cut up there car. I think it is around a $500 extra cost for the custom transmission. The whole kit is around $5000 dollars.

Make sure you get that in writing. Seems like its a much taller trans than the tunnel. I would be curious as these threads seem to contradict what they say.

Thanks Jason for the part#, and also for the threads, i am a sheet metal worker by trade ,so originally cutting up my tunnel was not a problem, and the fact that my car is just a clone. I cant rememer who told me about that company, but so far i am sold on there product. There kit comes with the factory hump. I have been saving for the kit for about a year i should be able to order it in fall of 2011, it will be my next winter project.
