Anybody know who makes or reproduces the correct black shifter ball w/o the pattern for use with a consolette? Im sure they're out there I just cant find it. Jason
I agree - You'd think these would be falling out of the trees like apples, but I couldn't find any without the shift pattern. I did notice that the Paddock (paddockparts.com), Ausley's (Chevelle.com) and Jeg's all have chrome balls that you could paint. Use a good etching primer, spray black, bake @ 350 degrees for 1/2 hour (Important: use an electric oven!) and I think you would be pleased with the finish and durability. I did this for my pickup truck (daily driver) a number of years ago. K
Shifter ball Jason, The only correct 4 speed/no pattern ball I've found comes from: Thornton Reproductions 4469 Bethlehem Pike Telford, PA. 18969 215-284-0118 troy@thornton442.com I have one on my GSX and it looks perfect.
i had an original around from my 68 gs 400 of years ago but i dont know if i still have it! guess i better look for it.
You can get the same correct ball cheaper than from Thornton at Classic Olds 336 766 7845 Tell Jim Michaels I sent you.
Okay, I'll bite. So what is the correct shifter knob for my 69 4-speed? Black with no shift pattern? I've got white with the shift pattern at the moment. (Mmakes sense if my current one is wrong -- I always wondered why the car had two shift patterns -- one on the knob & one on the consolette.) -- Steve
If you have a consolette the pattern is on the insert in the consolette so the ball was left blank. If you have just a boot and ring in the floor then the only place was to put the pattern on the ball.
I have never seen anything but black regardless of the interior color. Also there is only one part number. Although this does not mean only black was offered, I note that consolettes came in colors which did have individual part number on a per color basis.
Lets add to the confusion. My 70 4 speed black interior and shift ball has the consolete and a shift ball with the pattern. I have talked with the original owner and this is the way the car came from the factory.
Not to butt in, but if anyone has one, I could use the '70-72 Pontiac version. It is larger diameter black 4spd knob with white pattern. Definitely larger diameter than the one above that Pete Serio has listed on e-Bay.
I ran in to this and the only ones I could find were the cheap plastic ones. So I bought a Hurst brand ball with the pattern and had my painter fill the area and paint/clear coat it. AL.
Roger The larger diameter ball with the white pattern on black is remade by Thorton and carried by Jim Michaels at Classic Olds.
Watch your stick threads! I had called Classic Olds, but Jim did not have the correct thread for me. I have coarse thread, so I got one from Jegs. Unfortunately it is very small.
Be careful about the thread assumption. It fits a 70 Buick Hurst factory shifter and a 66 OLDS Hurst shifter. I took some shifters to Jim and put them on myself just to make sure. I have them on our cars. Now if you have an aftermarket I have no idea . I am talking stock shifters.
