Hurst 4 speed shifter Id

I know I saw a post some where but cant find it. Does anyone know where it is? I am trying to confirm the part numbers that should be stamped on the shifter base for a 69 GS. I have another project and looking for the corect trans linkage and shifter. I think the shifter I have is corect but I believe some of the linkage is MIA. It sounds like 69 was a one only parts year would i be better off with switching to 70 to 72 shifter and linkage .

Handle butt is stamped 5335. Mechanism and rods and handle should be the same for at least 68- 72.


The Muncie trans did change over that time. Input shaft spline count and TCS switch for example changed.

 

Jim is correct- 5335 handle. the shifter rods, however, are 69 specific. The 70-72 shifter rods are easier to find- as they are reproduced.

I can get a close up pic when I pull the trans and shifter from my 69 4 speed this winter...

 

I looked the 68-69 rods for 1-2 , 3-4 and reverse are the same whereas the 70-72 aslo track each other.

 

Is it the reverse lock out rods and mechanisim that is 69 only?

 

No I think that may be the same. It is the gear shift rods that are either the 68-69 part numbers or the 70-72 part numbers.

 

Thanks so this is what I need . is it 69 only or 68 - 72? Do you have one available?? IS the frame mount piece the same as a automatic trans piece? Are the nylon buskings available aftermarket?

 

:idea2: the backdrive is 69 only..... and they WILL NOT..... work with 70-72 linkage.....

 

:idea2: but..... the levers that mount the rods to the trans are different between 68 , 69 and 70-72...:idea2: I have all 3 years....
