    Hello All,

Just "took delivery" of the 2nd Buick I've owned. My first was when I was 18. It was a '93 Century. I just took delivery of a '74 Apollo. It needs some work but it's in good shape. Especially for it's age. Had the debate with a few people and I always leave it with "the car is almost 40 years old, what do you expect?" Well, as time goes on I'm planning on doing a lot of work to it to make it mine and I'm sure I'll be turning to all you enthusiasts and experts for tips and tricks.

My first question for all you Buick guys is this; My Apollo has something on the firewall and I haven't got a clue what it is. I can identify everything else. On the driver side between the break booster and the inner fender is a small box. It appears to be factory (so don't think it's and aftermarket thing.) It's small and seems to have a "button" or rubber bumper or something on it. The only other thing on it is the word start. (See attached photo)

    Thanks.

i think it's an early form of a turbo boost like from knight rider! in all seriousness, i have no idea, but welcome to the board and more specifically the x-body forum.

I believe it is a remote start button, to overide the seat belt safety switch (that does not allow the engine to start without the seat belt on) Used by mechanics to start the engine from under the hood. Ben. :)

    Hello Transcoupled,

Saw a couple of your videos on YouTube. Great stuff. Do you have the continuation of the 462 into a Apollo project?

    Hi,
I had a 74 Ventura GTO, Cool Car, and you had to have the belts on or it wouldnt start or then we would buckle them behind us. Even if you put something on the seat that was to heavy you had to buckle it also. They were a pain.
I was selling Chevys then and we would unplug a connection under the seat.
A question? I have a bumper jack, GM, that has a round rubber cushion that rests on bumper with a hook that fits in a slot in bumper. all 1 piece. Is that like yours? Its like new and light grey in color.
By the way A Nice looking Apollo:beer

Thanks. I don't actually have the jack for the car. The bumpers do have the slots though. About the seat belt thing though, are you telling me that I can just unplug it and be good to go?

Check under the front seats and see if there is a wiring clip. Its been a lot of years since I messed with them. If I remember correctly, just unclip the connection and try to start it w/o the belts on. If not plug back in. trial and error method.:Do No: But I rember what PITA they were. Novas, Malibus etc. Im sure most 63-64`s had the same setup. Check owners manual or shop manual for info if available. It was one of GM`s better ideas
    Hope that helps
    Gary
