Is the fuel filter in the metal fuel line ?? in the back or front of the engine ? Never do this before , but wanna learn how to do it
Donald, on all 68 engines, the fuel filter is located in the fuel inlet on the carburetor, not in the actual steel fuel line. Remove the fuel line from the carb, and you will see where the filter is. Careful not to lose the spring that's in there with the filter.
Thanks David , the worst thing is that I allready took it off 3 years ago (my father-in-law did actually...) to check it out ou: I'll look for it tomorow .
Look like I located it but it's kinda hard to unbolt .... don't want to take chance broken it . Does they both (2 nuts) goes out counter-clock wise ? Or first does they both have to go ??
You need a line wrench for the smaller fitting. They both loosen counter-clockwise. You should first hold the bigger fitting and loosen the smaller fitting with the line wrench. Then loosen the big fitting. On a Q-jet, the large fitting is 1", and the smaller is 5/8". Not sure of the 2 bll, it's been awhile.
Thank you Larry ! :beer It took me less than 5 minutes with the "how to do guide" For the record , the fittings are 5/8 and 1 inch like the Q-Jet :TU:
be sure to check which way you put the filter back in. The back of it (part furthest inside the carb) needs to be the closed end. If you put the closed end facing the line it will impeed the fuel transfer and the car will choke and die. Yes, I have done this before in a hurry and wore the egg on my face when it was pointed out to me by a buddy...
