Can anyone advise how to confirm if a 67 GS Riviera is a true GS & not a clone?
Other than the GS badging and Aircleaner are there codes on the body tag, engine bay data plate or Engine number that are specific to a GS.
Or is there a way of checking the serial numbers to confirm that it was a GS from the factory?

    Thanks .... buickman@bigpond.net.au

The GS package was an option and not a separate series of the Riviera.
For some reason you can't find it back on the Body Number Plate under the bonnet. Did you check inside the car for the build sheet, or on top of the petrol tank ?

This is a car I'm looking at buying so I don't think the present owner would look kindly on me disassembling the car looking for a build sheet:grin:

You can always take out the lower part of the rear seat, it takes 10 seconds to do so. Sometimes the build sheet is found there.

It's really hard to put those GS emblems on straight.......if they appear to be crooked I would be suspicious. Also, if it has the original transmission, get the code off the tag on the side of it........I think BT is non-gs and BS is but I'm not certain.

You could also count the turns of the steering wheel from stop to stop......the GS came with tight ratio steering, and that should be about 2-1/2 turns from full right to full left. Unless someone swapped out the steering box. :Dou:

according to the ROA: "In '67-'68 the faster 15:1 ratio steering was available, but not included in the GS package. The fast ratio steering will turn lock to lock at 3.25 turns versus the standard 3.75."
i dont know if that's true or not. probably is.
basically, you could get get all the GS options on a plain old riv.
if the cloner did their homework, it's almost impossible to tell the difference. :Do No:
hmmm... i think i'll go price those GS emblems i saw on ebay.:beer

:Dou: I must be getting too old for this. However, I know for a fact, the quick ratio steering was standard on the Riv GS for '66. I'm still kicking myself to this day for turning that steering box in as a core whan I replaced it with the later style variable ratio box.

I was really blowing smoke today.......I was wrong here too. I put my reading glasses on, :Brow: and according to my '67 service manual, the Wildcat, Electra and Riviera all used a "BT" transmission. No mention of the GS option. There is no "BS" model in '67 as there was in '66 for the GS Riv and Wildcat.

I guess the GS option really did take a dive after '66. They don't even mention it in the '67 owners manual as they do on page 20 of the '66 owners manual. :Dou:
