I was surfing thru da'Bay for '68 Biscayne stuff and stumbled on this. Drain Plug    I swear the stuff gets crazier and crazier every day. I think I'm gonna start collecting snow shovels or something ........... o No:
The good news is that there are no bids. I agree with you, it's getting nuts what some people are asking for simple little parts.
If you're looking for the right part # for your car, (68) it would be 444789 which supercedes 3989514. That info is from my Dec. 75 issue big Chev parts book. (GM) John C
Another example of a rediculous price...got mine at this years GSCA NATS...$10.00 ! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...ewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQitemZ4593437335QQrdZ1 TUFBUICK
And just so we don't leave out the Mopar boyz .... and the auction hasn't ended yet.......... Oil Filter uzzled:
Man, I would be investing in some stickers, stencils, or something to have the "look" of an old filter and be able to do regular oil changes. Hmmm, new business venture.
There are Mopar guys that have those dumb filters that actually carry them around to the big shows. They have a normal filter on the car, start it up, get it off the trailer. Display the car, change filters. Show's done, they change filters. What a pain in the a$$ ........ If it didn't have that "M" on the end, I'd be inclined to do what you said and figure out a way to reproduce the look.
I think I bought a set of 66 repro knock offs new around 1983 for about $1000. And those don't look right to me either. As I remember the 66 had black paint on the inside surfaces. It was the earlier ones, like 63-64 that were raw aluminum color. You really need to know what you're doing not to get shafted on these sorts of things. How rare can a set of reproductions be after only 20 years? I'm a little confused by this. If they are original, maybe but they look wrong to me for 66. I will give credit to the hammer. It's the same as I had. But mine was totally deformed from beating the piss out of the spinner nuts taking the wheels on and off.
I picked up an NOS/NIB PF30 (white, not blue) a couple years ago just in case I ever go senile and want to do what you described. A more likely scenario will be that upon rebuilding and perfectly detailing my engine, I'll install the filter just to take a few pictures, then stash it away again. It will come in handy in case the Smithsonian ever comes calling. p But I didn't pay more than $20 for it .....
I take my Fram HP2 filter and paint it Delco blue. :Brow: No one around here cares what you have on it for an oil filter except for the extreme cases. I will spend my money on new rearends and repro tires. Gee, getting a trailer opens up some many posibilities to spend more money!
Anyone looking for an LS-6 Chevelle convertible project car, here's a good deal on one ....... :eek2: LS-6 Chevelle
Hey Tom, I have a million dollar bill too that I keep around just in case something comes up. But I notice we have the same serial number... Think that's a problem? This guy is nuts if he thinks that Chevelle will ever be worth $2M. You could probably buy half of Plaquemines Parish Louisiana for that right about now.
