I sold my 74 Lesabre convertible, so I could buy a 65 Wildcat convertible, one of my dad and mine's dream cars. Anyhow the 65 needed a new pumpkin gasket. While I was in there I figured out that it has 3.42s and a limited slip. I'm just wondering how rare they are?
3.42 was a desired option, and fairly rare. (Don't have the definitive production numbers) IMHO it's probably the best all around ratio for a Nailhead Buick. You've got a keeper there.
Jackpot in the rear gear department. You might want to run som fairly tall tires in the back, since it will rev quite high on the freeway
The tires are fairly tall. It's running 235 75 15 tires. She definitely has plenty of snap. Makes me wonder though what a previous 65 Cat had.
Those would be pretty close to the stock size of H-78-15. Imagine a skinny bias-ply tire getting rotated to the point of blowing up...with a 3.42 they were still easy to burn off, oh, pardon me, "soften up for better grip"...
I can about image it being pretty easy. My dad tells tales of his first 65 wildcat convertible he had in high school. He tells how he always got grief for driving a Buick until he ran a 65 409 Impala and he took him down by half a car length. They dropped it after that.
