How often do you change valve springs?

My springs on my hydraulic cam Stage 2 464 have been in there since 2003. Still pulls to 6500. Lost track of number of passes. Leaving them alone...I think hydraulic cam easier on them...bleed down when sitting.

On my Stage 1 SE, 308 solid cam, motor seems lazy on top end, almost like a governor. I think beginning of valve float. I think about 500 passes. Used to go 136-138 now 134-135
I'm about to put fresh ones in but was wondering how many passes people go before replacing.

    Test spring pressure?

I could if I had the tool. I figure if removing might as well replace.
Then later I can take old one to machine shop to test. Last time I did they were all down some with a few worse ones....

I ran the springs on my 308 cam for about 4 seasons.. maybe 600 passes... replaced them when they tested weak during a freshen. I did not notice any performance issues.. They were the TA 1160 springs as I recall.

    Your due for a set.

Pretty sure I have a spring tester (haven't built an engine in a long time) & I think you're m/l in the neighborhood (central AA Co.) if you want to use it.

In an extreme situation, we adjust valves and test seat pressure after every race. This is a 358 CI SBC making 750hp in a dirt sprint car. Each racing event about 20 miles on a 1/3 to 1/2 mile track. This is the best way to find a cracked valve spring, can't afford to drop a valve on a $60K motor.

It's just a typical sprint car engine. The 360s make 750hp and the 410s make 900+, they cost $60K to $80K.

I run triples on one of my solid roller engines, but those are rather antique now,as I don’t run triples on anything now. I’ve been waiting for them to fail, but still going. Some people back all the rockers off during off-season,but I do not. I just occasionally rotate the engine. Those particular springs are at least 15 years old. One of my new engines with a solid roller has a modern double double spring design and is going on 6 years so far.
