Going to check out a 69 Skylark tomorrow and was wondering about what ballpark figure this year would be worth. I know its based soley on condition and options but heres what I know: Body: straight with a few minor dings , no rust, ok paint ( white ) but drivers side door was replaced by some fool with a chevelle door and it of course doesnt fit right. Glass is good. Interior: carpet is faded but otherwise complete and not torn or worn out. Mechanical: Runs and drives but dont know what engine or transmission is in there yet. The guy is asking 700 or best offer. Would 700 be a good deal or should I go for 5 or 600? Im trying to learn how to haggle here.
If you want to haggle, then find every little bad thing about the car and keep it in mind when you talk to him. Don't dump all of it on him at once, or he'll be pissed at you and NOT budge on price. But the $700 price tag sounds awfully tempting. If you can drive it away, then you've got a deal as far as I'm concerned.
If it is rust free it is worth that kind of money even if it has a L6 and a 2 speed tranny behind it.
pictures of the suspect Ok, so its not a 69 but I couldn't find the guy that is selling it so Im still not sure what engine is in there. Tried to get a pic of the vin but it was covered by some litter. ( not kitty ) Also it did have some nasty rust in the front fenders but not in the back. Thats a first. Did the crazy door and paintjob.
If you can get new fenders and a door, it wouldn't be too bad. Heck, from what I can see, the door doesn't look *too* bad. Even if it is a 350 2, you CAN get 4 bbl intakes for those, right? that wouldn't be a bad driver.
Blech. Or worse, maybe since it has a chevelle looking rear end someone dropped a sbc in there. At first I was happy because that body style is a little more appealing to me & the boss but the rust and general funk means I'll probably get veto'd from buying it even though its only 700 bucks. Interior is not bad, its a bench with column shift. Oh well, I'd much rather be married than have that car. Now If it was a GS455 and the guy just didnt know what he had then it would be parked in my driveway and yes.. Most likely I'd be living in the garage with the other cars until I made at least one of them go away. But then it would be worth it. hehe This same yard also had a not to bad looking late 60's Riv. Couldn't tell which year it was exactly but it looked mean. Had the cool handle-like shifting thingy on the console.
Use the 2 Barrel as a Christmas tree ornament. I agree if you can get doors then it wouldn't be all that bad.
