    Hey Everyone,

How much nitrous would be needed to go from 8.0s to 7.6s???? Anyone ever use nitrous with akly?

    Thanks...

We used a 400 hp direct port nitrous system to go from 8.40 to 7.70
The car was around 3200 lbs if I remember correctly.
You could start with 200 hp jetting and go from there.

What ignition system do you use?

Do you use a Data Logger?

I would mount a small gas fuel cell and run an adjustable system such as the cheater or pro shot. It's going to take a fair amount nitrous as I suspect your roller has pretty tight lobe centers, perhaps 200 shot pills. Your displacing alot of air with N2O and added fuel so this counter acts some of the rating, especially with our small buick heads.

I ran 300hp foggers for years but I didn't have lots of liquid methanol in the mix. I worry that some of the gas may become entrained within the methanol effecting jetting since some alcohol remains unburned. The more I think about it the better the case for nozzles shooting directly at the head.

Is 7.6 fast enough for the fast four?

Paul, I use the trusty old MSD 7AL.

Dave, the LCA on this cam is a 114 and in at 112.

Herb, At 8.00s I do not have much of a chance. At 7.60s I would have a chance. With my pro tree brake I know I can (and have) cut consistent teen lights. Unfortunately they only gave me a week to prepare so this is probably not going to happen. It is tough for us naturally aspirated guys to compete in this arena but it would be fun. :)

Do you still want to pursue adding nitrous?
You could take your time and get the system ready for a later event.
It would be great to have you running 7.60s
Would your engine hold up to an additional 200 hp?

Call Mike Moran on a Turbo set up for your engine now and he will make it where you'll run 7.6 to 7.4 range and have room to play if you like. He is also damn good in the Nitrous department and damn good in the Methanol area too, His world record Twin Turbo car was on Methanol. http://www.moranmotorsports.com/ Check out his past and present on his record setting times. This is the guy I go to on Turbo set ups, chassis set ups, Nitrous use, Fuel injection set ups(DFI), and many more things. Good Luck Gary McGruther

I think mikes rail has fast 4 in the bag, I dont think I would risk hurting your engine with the odds stacked so highly. Its a rail ,when I run mike Its just for fun we all know a door car is not going to beat a rail in a heads up race. I will not have mine tuned up dont want to break it in losing battle

I was on the fence about going to this event and the news of this race made up my mind for me. There a quite a few "sleepers" out there, I can't wait to see them run all out. Good Luck guys!

Paul, Since this engine has so many passes on it already, I might pull it apart this winter for an inspection and make a few changes. The connecting rods in it now are a GRP series 1100. This is an extremely lightweight small block connecting rod. It is not a connecting rod for N2O.

Rod, It is good to hear that you will be going to Columbus!! Mike is certainly the favorite to win. My question is, can he run in the low 7s consistently? And yes, very tough to beat the rails. I would love to see that engine of his in a door car. I am just not a rail fan.

Herb, glad to hear you are going!!! See ya there!

I mostly started this thread to create conversation. The Trash Talk has been a bit stagnant lately.

Never count your chickens untill the eggs are all hatched, I seen some Rails lose to door slammers, good sample Mike Moran ran his car againest a rail and the rail lost! That was a heads up race too. I like it when someone tries really hard and thinks positive not Negative, When I raced, it was for fun never serious about it. Having fun will land you more trophies then being mister serious.

I'm fairly new to this site and aren't familiar with everyone and their cars.
Would you take the time to fill me in on your car and engine combination.

    Thanks

John your car is very fast and relatively maintenance free , I just would hate to see you get sucked in like my dumb a?? and break your car trying to do something your engine was not intended for. to win minimal money, in front of mt stands with few who even care. You have beaten me running 8s before, Every time I have seen someone including me throw something at a car before a race it ends bad.....

Well.. it turns out that I only needed about 5 HP our nitrous because I lost in the finals to the Jim Rock/Mike Bouher clan by .038 in the finals of the Frantic Four at this years BPG Event.

On a pro tree I had a .019 light to Mikes .012. He ran an 8.349 to my 8.379 in the heat and humidity. Even though I lost it was probably the best race I was ever in. It was a great deal of fun!!!

I am happy that Rod finally got the bugs worked out on his ride an put that bad boy well into the 7's.

Pmuller9, my car is Larry Morgans old 1988 Olds Firenza that I changed the head lights and tail lights to make into a Buick Shyhawk. With driver and 50 lbs of lead over the rear wheels the car is 2355 lbs with driver. So it is legal prostock weight. It has a 535 CID Buick engine with Stg 4 heads (ported by me) a Scott Brown (Competition Components) camshaft cam with an extremely lightweight rotation assembly. The bobweight is 1684. So the strength of the connecting rods are not conducive to N2O at this time. But I might do some upgrades this winter to be able to throw a few HP worth of N2O at it.

If you have any additional questions let me know!!!

    Thanks...

Almost pulled it off eh John? Nice job. We got the 67 back to the track last Wed. I got a shifter problem I need to straighten out so we'll probably be going to T&T this Friday night.

Have you ever thought about talking to this guy http://www.montesmithperformance.com/ He is a master at Nitrous systems, He has shown people he make more power with their system they have now with the same setting their using and less stress to their engine to boot. I know of several pro racers attended his class and learned a thing or two and are setting records on his knowledge know. Just give a shout and you'll be surprized.
