How Many use this board more as research?

Discussion in 'The Bench' started by Paul Massicotte, Jan 16, 2004.

  1. The reason I ask is that I spend hours searching and reading old posts about qusetions I might have versus replying to others questions. Somethimes I feel bad that I only use it one way. It is clear that there are many on here who share their knowledge (free, I might add) on a daily basis. But I was wondering how many browsers or FNG's there are who don't post alot or only post their questions when they need an answer on something their working on?

Maybe after enough reading old posts and scraping my knuckles a few more times, I too can lend the proverbial hand.

    Paul,

This board is here to share knowledge. Don't feel you have to post about stuff to be welcome. Its way better to take it all in rather than comment on something you don't know about. (Maybe I should heed my own advice:puzzled: ) Besides, there are a HUGE variety of subjects here, and in "The Bench", they are not necessarily about cars and Buicks. Everybody knows something that someone else dosen't. If you are feeling bad at all, you can always contribute financially to the board (Not Required), or join the BPG. Theres my two cents worth. I'll shut up now..............:Smarty:

    Well,
I can't speak for the whole group but when I have a question I too will try to search thru the old posts for my answer before starting a new thread on what might be a subject already covered. :Comp:

I also do more research than post here. Maybe one day I will have the knowledge of some of the others to pass on.

personally i like doing both, part of my evening routine is to come online and read most of the new post. i am in the middle of rebuilding my engine and i get a lot of great infomation just by looking. you really shouldn'y feel bad about how you use this web site. by the way how do you make a contribution to this board. anyone??

  6. Ron,
By the way how is that motor going? Mine is stuck, literally. I have it all unbolted but the crank is still stuck. I mean really stuck!:af: I just picked up a Bernzomatic torch so I can heat up the tops of the pistons and try to bang the connecting rods away from the crank to get it out.

Thanks for listening to my whine. I guess I could share what I know about off subject things too. Anyone need cable run in their house? Only need to pay labor, all supplies compliments of Comcast:laugh:

I typically read all the posts when new to try to learn. When I get back to fixing me car I'll probably search the posts more. I even read things not related to my model car.

    Dan,
What I plan on doing is heating the tops of the pistons, and using a steel shaft and a 4 lb hammer bang at the underside of the tops of the pistons from the bottom up to get the connecting rods away from the crank. As it stand now the conn rods seem to be holding the crank in the journals.

Am I nuts or is somethng else allowing me to pick this block/crank assembly by the crank only without it falling out?

And yes I did try knocking it out from the top of the crank key way with a block of wood.

    Any help would be appreciated
    Paul

I find this website invaluable to the upkeep and running of my car. I don't know what I would have done without it. Just finding Buick parts here is a Godsend.

I also have no problem posting if I learn something that I think others would be interested in. Plus, I like to hear myself talk, er, type I guess.

Being new to Buicks in the past year I used this forum a lot to learn about my cars. I've also just recently bought a car because of V8. I never would have known about it if I wasn't on the board. There was an ad in the local buy & sell paper yesterday of a 455 with stage 1 heads for sale 5 minutes from my house. I checked the site and found out how to identify stage 1 heads in a matter of minutes along with pictures. I have also made a lot of friends on the board. Some I've met and some I haven't but friends nevertheless. I've never met so many people that are so willing to help out a fellow enthusiast. I love it here.

I've been a member here since June 2002 and this is only post 281. But if the stats showed time logged on............

You would find I'm here everyday for an hour or so, just reading and learning. If I have something to say, I post.

This is a great site for everybody :beer :beer :beer

I just discovered this website a few weeks ago. You can tell by my number of posts in this short time that I like it a lot. I find myself browsing around a lot here every spare minute I have. The local website I used to hang out on I hardly pay attention to anymore.

I have learned an awful lot these past few weeks just reading here. I hope the info I pass on to everyone else here has helped them. I have 25 years of Buick experience and knowledge to pass on, and I would not feel right if I knew the answer to something and did not share it here with everyone.

This is a great place to be if you are a Buick owner, and I look forward to being here for a long time. It's nice to have a place to go where you fit in, Buffalo is a Chevy town (the engine plant is 5 miles away from me) and our local car shows prove that. I feel at home here on this website.

Now I have a place where I can find parts as well as share what parts I have with others here. I only wish I would have found out about this place sooner.:)
