    Does anyone know the number of 1970, Stage 1 GS's built in this color? The Buick color code is J J 8. Hardtop, Burnished Saddle.

    Also, is the matching interior trim color all black?

    Thanks,

    Ross

    JJ is burnished saddle body and top for 1970. 188 is the trim code for the black interior. Take another look as it should read "TR 188' on the cowl tag.

    Mike can give you some figures from the daily car reports but to the best of my recollection the number of stage one optioned cars by color is not a known parameter. They did make a lot of GS cars that color in 70 and I think he can tell you that information just not the number of stage cars by color.

    Jim - Thanks, the trim code is 189 - which indicates burnish saddle as well, but does that mean that is the color the interior should be (the seats and the carpet)? The car has the common black bucket and black carpet (like 188).

    One more question - the 8 in the J J 8 color code - does that indicate a vinyl top originally? If not, what does the 8 stand for?

    Thanks for the help!

    In 70 "8" was a dark brown vinyl top.

    Jim is right, the daily car reports do not list color combinations with Stage 1 cars. Here is what I can tell you:

    Burnished Saddle color = 2714 total GS (incl. converts and 350 cars).
    455 coupes = 1060
    Conv. = 224
    GS350 = 1430

    Since your car is a Stage 1 it came from the Flint plant in 1970. The Flint plant painted 571 GS455 coupes that color.

    Vinyl top code 8 = Dark Brown
    Flint GS455 Coupes = 880
    Total GS455 production with that top color = 1571
    (Vinyl top totals include all body colors)

    Sorry, that is detailed as I can get. No further breakdowns are currently available and most likely never will be available.
