I have tried most of the electrical system in my GSX but car has not been started. With key in the run position I would think the backup lights would work with shifter in reverse. Any cluses how to check if the switch is good?

By the way the tailights and brakes lights work so ground is good.

You already verified that the bulb is good, right?

My stuff is a 71, but I'd think they'd be the same. The neutral safety swich at the bottom of your steering column also houses the back up switch. You should have two purple wires going into it, those are the neutral safety switch. Then a pink wire goes in supplying power to the back up lights. A Lt Green wire comes out and goes to the back up lights. Check if you have power going into the switch at the pink, put it in reverse with the key on and then see if you have power out at the lt. green wire.

Is your back drive linkage hooked up? If it is you may need to adjust it. The arm on the bottom of the steering wheel needs to be in the correct position for the back up light switch to work.

Thanks for the suggestions. The switch on the 4 speed is only for the back-up lights. It does not have the same neutral safety switch. I was actually going to try and loosen the backup switch and move it side to side first. The backdrive rod up and down adjustment is a good suggestion as well. I think the bulbs should be good as they are all new.

Craig, I will check the power as you suggested as well if the simple adjustment does not work.

I figured it out. All it took was loosening screws on switch and adjusting position of switch. Simple.
