I'm new on the boards here. I had a 70 Skylark many years ago. It was the first car I bought w/ my own money back in highschool. It came from the neighbor. It had been sitting for years, factory granny hubcaps, ugly as sin, highway gears...total sleeper. Mike Garrison helped me with some engine stuff (four barrel intake), a 3.23 rear end and some 14" ralleye wheels. A Holley 600, dual exhaust w/ Dynomax's for nice sound and now the thing ran pretty hard.

One night my buddy and I are out on the boulevard in Topeka when up pulls a GTO Judge...a beautiful car. He starts jawing, then proceeds to get downright belligerent about Buicks, Buick drivers...pretty sure he jsut wanted to suck that poor primered Lark' in to a race to embarass us. Well heck, I couldn't take it anymore, so I slammed the column shifter (yeah you read that right) into low and said "let's go!". We both were crawling about 2mph and punched em'. From a crawl to about 90per that poor Judge had to look at my primered fenders DEAD even w/ his GTO...he never pulled an inch. Needless to say, he wouldn't even look at us at the next light and turned off in shame.

I looked at my buddy and said "Did that just happen?" he was sure the Judge had car problems...I mean what else could explain it? Funny thing was the following Monday, the Judge owner proceeded to grill Mike Garrison about what he had done to that car of mine as he was giving it all he had and couldn't unglue us from his fender. We still smile pretty big thinking about how poor ol' Bruce had to take a boulevard smack in the mouth by a primer ugly small block Lark', stock as can be (well unless you count the 600 Holley as a big performance boost  )

Next car was the 70 Stage I 4speed car and now after all of these years a 72 GS Convertible which is gonna get some NASTY stuff done to it here in the next few months...but I sure won't be taking any grey primered Skylarks for granted when it hits the streets

Welcome back. Sounds like you'll be having some fun with the two you've got now. Especially if you let Mike tinker with them like your first one.

Unfortunately, the 70 4speed car is long gone...I wish it was still here, ex-wife squaked that car away :Dou:

seems unfortunate that the car became an ex before the wife did.
