I haven't posted here in months but... i have as 1970 Pontiac LeMans I am running a 1976 Buick 455 with a TH-400 out of a estate wagon.

it is running on switches as we speak but they are wired wrong.

I have three switches. 1st one is my starter. 2nd is i dont know and 3rd is dont know.

How do i re wire it so i can use the 2nd or 3rd switch to shut off the engine. right now i have no way of shutting it off. i can hit the starter switch with the other too off or on and it will start up. and i have to hit the starter again to shut it down. which is going to kill my starter eventually.

I am not afraid to re-wire the hole thing. thanks and here a pic of my motor dont mind the mess i just got it running again.

Ground wire thru a s/w to neg coil post...used frequently as a hidden kill s/w.

What happens when you turn off the key?

"but they are wired wrong" How do you know they are wrong if you dont know what they do?

A switch can be wired to add or remove current or ground and they will also be constant or momentary (like the starter button or key) and it would depend on what you are going to wire which you would use? If you are running a high amp device like a fan you should also add a relay.

I only worked with a swith/push button but if I would do it they way you did I would have your first switch turning power to your accessories (connect to your battery) Have your second switch wired to your starter to turn the motor over after turning on your first switch. And then your third would be to put power to your ignition.

You will find it to be a real nuisance like that but if you wanted that way of starting get the pushbutton plate from summit for 20 dollars and you will be wired in 30 minutes with ease. its just a switch to put power to ignition and a button to engage starter. Hope this helps

Also the switch to your starter cannot be engaged the entire time once its started I believe you would need to flip it back down.
