How do I find my cars history??

I want to find my cars history, from when it left its production plant in Linden, NJ, in 1976, to how it ended with its owner, a Mr Smith (yes, im being serious) in 2001, in Victoria, Australia. What happened in that time? Who was its first owner, why did he/she sell it, and when was it boxed up, and shipped over here? Anyone have any links or ideas how to go about this? Im going to contact Chapel Engineering in Victoria, where the LHD to RHD conversion took place, and see if they have any documents on it.

    Cheers all!

well I sent the cars info to the lost car registry. They may give the info as to the last US owner of the car. Cheers mate!

You may be able to contact the Sloan Museum in Flint MI and have them provide information from your VIN. If they do not have it the GM Heritiage Center may. Then when you get the dealership number you can see if you can find out who the dealer was. If you know what location it was originally sold you may be able to contact states directly to find out who registered it orginally. It may work.

Does the Heritage Center also have VIN/build information?

For just Buicks or all GM nameplates?

Ahh, to be Canadian....or an Ontarian?

here in Ontario we have the used vehicle report thats needed when a vehicle changes hands. Every owner/town is listed back to day 1 - if it stayed in the province.

I do not know specifically what the GM Heritage center has but it claims to have a very large GM document collection. A person would have to get in contact with them with specific questions.
