just wondering how yall are cookin your turkeys this year? since moving out here to san diego and living on my own, iv taken over in cooking dinner. the first year year i defrosted the sucker, slapped on some dixie fry, fried it up and smoothered it with buffalo sauce. it was awesome! at least i thought  then last year stuffed it with a tub of butter, garlic, onions, pepper, red potatos, corn... all the other good stuff. cooked up some french bread, and cheese sauce and went to town! :TU: dont know what to do this year though. any thoughts?

Since I'm in Maine and my in-laws are coming over (the rest of my family is in NJ) I will cook the turkey a bit differently this year, since it's MY house. :Brow:

  7. No cooking here, just eating at the in-laws! Of course, the downside to this is no leftovers here... :ball:

A few years ago when we cooked our first turkey, we had no real clue what we were doing. We actually cooked it upside down!

It was the juiciest turkey we'd ever had, and now we always cook turkey upside down. So should you!

    Take out the giblets first.

Patty - would that duck fat make a good conditioner for the hair? Just wondered.

We're off to my brother's sister-in-law's, and only have to bring a broccoli salad. Cindy usually does hers the traditional way, in the oven. Like someone said, no leftovers. But I'll have Xmas, and there will be plenty then.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

My wife bought this doo hickey from GE at Wally World. It's like a huge crock pot, but oblong. It has a drop in pot that holds everything and a lift out rack for the bird. It cooks to like around 400*. It was only like $30. I'm thinking no way will this work. She put it on around 6:00am and at 11:30 it was falling off the bone!! It was killer. I just woke up from the couch:laugh: . I hate cooking and kitchen junk but that's one cool pot. This is it online.......

i smoked a turkey 2 years ago with apple [we have a bunch of fruit trees in our yard] best tasteing bird i've had in ever. last year ma did one in..... i always hate to eat her birds, too dry, but i dont want to be the one to tell her. this year we got a small bird and my girfriend cooked it to perfection, nice and jucy! oddly enough she has never had one turn out so good [her own admittion]. about 6 years ago i tried a tofu turkey....take my advice, not anything like a real turkey, avoid it unless you are vegan:spank:
